Our Story

We first met when Julie began serving as the Transitional Pastor for Community Covenant Church in Springfield, VA. The first time I heard her speak, she preached on how God uses unexpected circumstances to begin new epochs that transform the world and change the course of history. We spent the next few months building up and supporting our church, entirely unaware of how God planned to use that time to start a new epoch in our lives.

When Julie's time at Community Covenant was up, a good friend of hers asked if she noticed the way I looked at her. Julie thought her friend was seeing something that was not there, but after much prayer, she felt God was inviting her to ask me how I felt. As it turned out, her friend was very right! We'll have been dating for six months when we get married in September, but we both feel we've known each other for so much longer. We believe the way we worked together, lifted each other up, and overcame challenges laid the foundation for our relationship.

We are excited to get married in a way that honors Julie's ordination vows. Like marriage vows, these are promises she made before God and community, and we are choosing to be joyously obedient to them. We believe God works wonders in our lives when we say "Yes, and" to Him, and we are so thrilled to celebrate with you as we take our first steps on the journey He has laid out for us.

Tidbits

How did you propose?

I booked a mystery picnic with a company that sent us a series of puzzles to solve. The puzzles led us to various stops along the way where we picked up picnic essentials like sandwiches, salads, and desserts. The last puzzle led us to Oz Park in Chicago, where we laid down a blanket and got ready to eat.

I told Julie there was one more puzzle in my backpack that she had to solve. That was the cue for the photographer, who was cleverly blending in with the other parkgoers, to start taking pictures. Julie pulled a framed poem I had written with a picture of us from the backpack, and when she looked up I was down on one knee, with her grandmother's ring in a box. We then had a really fun photoshoot, enjoyed the picnic, and went to the zoo!

What's your favorite activity together?

We first bonded over board games and Danny got to know my parents by playing Azul. We're not too old to enjoy skipping in the park, but old enough to enjoy long walks and deep theological conversations. Every night Danny sends me a voice note reading from the Bible, and when our schedules align, we pray together before we go to bed.

Where did you go for your first date?

Originally we had planned to go to the Spy Museum for our first date, but two days before, we ended up going to the ER to care for a friend. After staying up all night, Julie suggested this would be our first date to take the pressure off that weekend. We then went to the Spy Museum, ate dinner, and sat together on the steps of the Supreme Court.

What's the most memorable trip you have taken together?

In April we drove a day and a half across the country to drive me to Chicago. We got to meet friends and family, eat lunch at a charming Amish deli, and introduce Danny to the wonders of Chicago!

Where are you going for your honeymoon?

A lakehouse!

How did you know?

Danny was very supportive of me (and women in general) in ministry, he built forts with me, and he had a nerf gun battle with me and my friends. His dog, Joel, also decided I was one of his people, and that was very important to him.

What is a shared life goal of yours?

We are prayerfully considering church planting some day. During our time working together for our church we hosted a paint night, board game night, and other fun activities that we look forward to doing again with friends and, potentially, future congregants.

What's next for you two after the wedding?

Julie will be moving to the DC metro area after we are married, but we plan on taking trips to visit Chicago and the rest of the world.

When did you start dating?

Between Ironman 2 and 3!

Registry

Since we're combining two working households, we actually already have a lot of the "typical" wedding gifts. With that in mind, we've set up a few options, both for those who like to strike their own path and those who appreciate suggestions. Gifts can be sent to 6035 Curtier Dr, Unit D, Alexandria, VA 22310. We do not have most of your home addresses, so please include them in order for us to write hand-written thank you cards!

Option 1: Gift something that sparks joy for you or that you think will bring us joy.

Option 2: Visit our Amazon registry for specific ideas

Option 3: Contribute to travel funds (pictures below)

Option 4: Review our Google document for general ideas (docs.google.com/document/d/1etUI1MMQlXJfCRaNRS--L1SScCRDC7oNQemQImFLYec/edit).

For all our friends and family who have lots of questions, please check out our Q & A first!

When is the RSVP deadline?

We chose not to require RSVPs since we are not having a formal reception, but please RSVP for our Rehearsal Party and Cocktail Hour using the Eventbrite links below.

Rehearsal Party:
Cocktail Hour:
Brunch:

Can I bring a date?

Yes! We would love to meet the special someone in your life.

Are kids welcome?

Absolutely! Some might say our service has even been designed for them...

Where should I park?

There is parallel parking in the neighborhood around the church, but if you're traveling from out of town you may find it more convenient to carpool or take an Uber.

Are the ceremony and reception locations wheelchair accessible?

Unfortunately, they are not. The church and parsonage are beautiful buildings, but have not been updated to allow for wheelchair access. If you are concerned about accessibility, please email dqb0364@gmail.com so we can try to find a solution for you.

What should I wear?

We will be in formal attire (wedding dress and suit) but we invite you to wear whatever would make you happiest while you celebrate with us. Whether you're a suit and tie kind of person or like to wear bright, festive clothing that signifies celebration in your culture, we would love to have you!

Is the wedding indoors or outdoors?

Indoors, at Grace Covenant Church. We may adjust our plans as the pandemic continues to unfold.

Is it okay to take pictures with our phones and cameras during the wedding?

Yes, and please share them with us later! Here are a few options for sharing:

1. Tag us on Facebook

2. Use #CapelBurch on Instagram

3. Text them to 612-703-1211 (Julie)

4. Email them to dqb0364@gmail.com
