Engagement
How did Chris propose?
It was May 28 2018. Chris took Amanda for a drive and they saw some horses that were in the area for the upcoming rodeo. Naturally Amanda wanted to stop and say hello. Amanda and Chris were trespassing and were politely asked to leave and stop petting the horses. Chris took Amanda down to Wapiti River for a beautiful walk to cheer her up. Spring had finally sprung and things were warming up. Amanda was playfully throwing rocks at Chris completely oblivious of his intention of proposing. When he got down on one knee she thought she had injured him. Chris then said what she had been wanting to hear him say since they had met. Of course Amanda said yes! They were pregnant with their little flower girl Maria then so that made that day even more special. In their true habit of doing things untraditionally they decided to wait until after they welcomed their second child Lucas to get planning the wedding so he could be their ring bearer. The destination was always the same the order didn’t matter to them. What was most important was their love for each other and their family.

Things we’d like you to know about the Venue and our Wedding!
Dear Guests,
To say we are excited to have you is an understatement! This wedding has been in our dreams for quite some time. We know a rustic wedding and out of town wedding isn’t everyone’s dream though. When we say rustic we mean it! Our lovely family has graciously let us host our big day on their property and we want to make sure we leave the place exactly how we found it. Beautiful and pristine.
Our wedding is during the heart of fire season, chances are there will be a fire ban! This means no fireworks too Chris! Don’t worry we’ll have a propane fire pit to roast some s'mores and to gather around. We will be bringing in port-a potties for our guests so not to overburden the property’s outhouse. Please use the porta potty’s and NOT the property's outhouse or the bushes.. I’m looking at you Angelica. We also ask that any smokers use the designated ashtray buckets that will be provided in a couple areas on the venue site. Please bring comfortable shoes and attire for any weather. We’ll be getting married rain or shine. Cell reception and internet is non existent so be prepared for that. There is a land line at the venue we can give you the number for Emergancy contacts. Black Bears are common in the area so please be mindful where you dispose of garbage. Quiet time on the Lake is 11pm. We wont be turning it off then.. just turning it down. The lake has a rule of maximum 10 HP motors for boats… sorry Kevin you’ll have to leave yours at home. We know a lot of our family and friends like to indulge in the spirits, for your convience we will be having a toonie tip bar! We love our food and we can't wait to dig in with you.. after the ceremony we will be offering light appetizers and for the reception the Bride has requested a Taco Bar! On Sunday morning a simple brunch with coffee is in the plans for all our guests staying over night in the area. We ask that our Guests who plan to join us earlier than Saturday afternoon and leave later than Sunday please keep in mind you'll be responsible for your own meals. Greenwood has a few local gems to eat at! Our friend Oliver at Jewel Creek Organic Farm (just a 10 minute drive) makes an amazing Pizza as well. We also would like all our guests that plan on bringing your RV/Tent/Trailer and staying at Jewel Lake to go through the Bride to be for booking a spot.
Jewel Lake is well known for its beauty and returning campers year after year. We hope to hold our five year anniversary party on the same property so please help us make sure Jackie, Steve,Grace and Jewel Lake Resort want to have us back! Think of this as a summer camping trip and I’m sure you’ll love it as much as we do. Thank you so much and we can’t wait!
The Venue for our Reception !
Located just twenty minutes from the beautiful town of Greenwood. Our amazing family (The Browns) have graciously volunteered their little piece of paradise for us to fulfill our dreams of getting married on the water. We fell in the love with the area and know you will too.
There is no accommodations at the reception location, we will be having the ceremony and stayin just a short stumble.. I mean walk away at Jewel Lake resort!
The phone number provided should only be used in the event you are lost or to give out as an Emergancy contact. Cabin #1 Jewel Creek Farm
These are the cabins at the Jewel Creek Farm located just under 10 minutes from our Venue… we’ve checked them out and WOW the views and location is just stunning. Oliver the Host is so friendly and accommodating. He mentioned he maybe could offer a shuttle for our guests from the venue to his farm! He has 3 barrel cabins and 4 yurt tents.. they’re so cool! He’s an amazing cook and happens to brew a great beer. We highly recommend this place. Oliver is in the process of building a dome on his property and mentioned if completed it may be the perfect place for the happy couple.. so who knows we may be staying there on our wedding night! Either way its close, it’s cozy and its an experience you can’t find anywhere else! Feel free to book these ASAP if you're interested as they wont last long.
Cabin #2 at Jewel Creek Farm
Feel free to book these ASAP if you're interested as they wont last long. Let Oliver know you are coming for our wedding!
Cabin #3 At Jewel Creek Organic Farm

YURTS!! Oliver offers another unique camping experience just minutes from our Wedding Venue.. These are the perfect place to get some shut eye after a long night of dancing! Unlike the Cabins at Jewel Creek Farm these aren’t available through Air BNB but rather must be booked by calling him. Keep in mind cell reception can be spotty in the area so leave a message and he’ll get back to you. Oliver is a super host and has been great about communicating with us. The bride can provide you will pictures of the Yurts and help contacting Oliver. Yurt’s are $150 a night. Feel free to book these ASAP if you're interested as they wont last long.
Cottages in Unique Wild West RV Park
Full disclosure we haven’t checked out these accommodations yet. They’re in the town of Greenwood so at least a 20 minute drive from our venue and where the wedding party and family will be staying BUT check out this western feel.. You can 100% guarantee we’ll be visiting you to take some wedding photos at your location if you decided to stay here!
Evening Star Motel
She isn’t fancy or within walking distance but this Motel is in the town of Greenwood and only 20 minutes away. It’s a place you can rest comfortably if camping and the wilderness isn’t your cup of tea but you still want to join us on our special day and don’t feel much like driving home after the reception!!
Q & A
For all our friends and family who have lots of questions, please check out our Q & A first!
Can I bring a date?
Please check your invite for your +1!
When is the RSVP deadline?
Please RSVP by June 1, so we can have an accurate headcount.
Are kids welcome?
Yes!
What will the weather be like?
Might be hot or it might be wet! Please pack and dress accordingly.
Where should I park?
There is plenty of parking at Jewel Lake Resort.
Are the ceremony and reception locations wheelchair accessible?
Technically yes, we’re outdoors though so the terrain is uneven.
What should I wear?
Keep it casual!
Is the wedding indoors or outdoors?
Our wedding is outdoors, we have tents for dinner service.
What kind of shoes should/shouldn't I wear?
Think comfy and camping!
Is it okay to take pictures with our phones and cameras during the wedding?
Yes! Please refrain from taking them during the ceremony as we have hired a photographer so everyone can be present in the moment.
Whom should I call with questions?
The mother of the bride, Joyce at 250-809-6663
What should/could I do between the ceremony and the reception?
At this time the wedding party will be taking photographs and we will be busy setting up for the dinner reception. We’ll have camping themed activities and games set up. There is a beautiful lake right there to go for a dip. An abandoned mine to explore. At Jewel Lake Resort we will have access to boat rentals and paddle boards. If you’re camping with us this would be an ideal time to get comfortable and set up for the stay. A nap might be a good idea to prepare for an evening of good food, company and dancing!
Is there a gifts registry?
Your presence is presents enough! Chris and Amanda have lived together for a few years and aren’t in need of any of typical household items. They are saving up for a honeymoon if you feel like contributing but know they just want to be surrounded by all their friends and family on the big day, money or gifts aren’t necessary or expected.
How can I help the couple have the best time during their wedding day?
Think of this wedding more like a rustic camping adventure rather than a formal wedding venue. The accommodations are rustic and we’re not near a city or many amenities. We know not everyone appreciates staying in the outdoors or a wedding out of town. We hope you join us keeping that in mind and be prepared to smell like bug spray, get some dirt on your shoes, and have your face hurt from smiling. Keep your expectations low and bring a positive attitude! The way to help the couple with having the best time means all our friends and family are enjoying themselves too!
I am coming from out of town. Where should I stay?
Please answer the RSVP questions and we’ll get in touch with you with some options. We have blocked off all the Cabins at the Jewel Lake Resort for the wedding party but there is a large area for RVs, campers and tents. Down the road 5 minutes there is some yurts and rustic cabins at Jewel Creek Resort. If “roughing” it isn’t your idea of a good time there are some motels just 20 minutes away.
Is there transportation being provided between reception and hotels?
The venue and Jewel Lake Resort are within walking distance. For guests staying at Jewel Creek Resort the owner has offered to shuttle his guests back to the accommodations. If we have guests in Greenwood we’ll look into a one time shuttle or cab so that our guests can get to town safety if they’ve been drinking.
Will you have babysitters on the premises?
Depending on the amount of children we have there may be one hired. As our venue is on the Lake we take keeping eyes on all the little ones very seriously!
How will food and drinks be served?
Very casual buffet style! Toonie bar for the basics / usuals!
What time will the reception end?
11pm is quiet time on the lake, we don’t plan on shutting down then but we plan to turn the music down a bit to respect our neighbours. We want everyone to camp and party with us until we’re too tired to carry on!
Is there WIFI at the venue?
NO.. and no cell service. This is a huge selling point for us so we all can become unplugged and be present in the moment and enjoy our company!
Are pets welcome?
No we’re sorry we can’t include them on our day.
I have a question not answered here; how do I contact you?
Amanda can be reached by text at 250-462-6035 or email at amandapeace@outlook.com
