Q & A

For all our friends and family who have lots of questions, please check out our Q & A first!

When is the RSVP deadline?

Please RSVP by May 2nd, so we can have an accurate headcount and plan accordingly. :)

Can I bring a date?

Please check your invite for your +1 (due to venue size and costs, we unfortunately were not able to grant all guests a +1 and sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause).

Will there be liquor/can I bring my own in?

There will be beer and wine available after the ceremony. The venue does not allow liquor/hard alcohol or any outside alcohol. Any failure to abide by this rule results in a $500 fine PER incident, so please do not bring any outside alcohol of any kind.

Are kids welcome?

As much as we love your little ones, we will not be including them in the ceremony or reception.

What will the weather be like?

Welcome to Charlotte! Charlotte in June is unpredictable in regards to weather. However, it is Summer time so plan for hot/warm weather!

Where should I park?

The venue has plenty of parking spots. However, it does NOT allow cars to be left there overnight. If you plan on drinking, please order an Uber or Lyft, carpool, or have a DD.

What should I wear?

Cocktail/semi formal... Ladies think dresses, skirts, pantsuits/romper, etc. Men think suit/tie, dress shirt, slacks/nice pants (not super fancy, but definitely elegant and comfortable). Please no jeans!

Is the wedding indoors or outdoors?

Our wedding ceremony is outdoors, but our reception will be in an air conditioned barn.

Is it okay to take pictures with our phones and cameras during the wedding?

Please do NOT take photos at the ceremony. We have hired a professional videographer and photographer to capture the beautiful moments of our ceremony and would greatly appreciate if those shots were not overtaken by someone's iPhone.

However, take as many pictures as possible at cocktail hour/reception!!! Be sure to share the photos with us!

Whom should I call with questions?

Please text the lovely bride with any questions 617-304-0717

Story

Abby had moved to Charlotte shortly before the pandemic in 2020 by herself. Garrett had recently gotten out of the military and had moved back home to Iowa. One of Abby’s best friends from college had a boyfriend that was good friends with Garrett. She texted Abby about potentially texting with him and getting to know him because he seemed like a “catch.” Abby wasn’t interested in chatting with someone long distance, but her friend gave her number to Garrett anyways. They had texted here & there and eventually they agreed to Facetime. Well, this Facetime lasted 8 hours. They bonded over their same taste in music and liking White Claws. When discussing which flavor was the worst, they both said “Tangerine” at the same time. Funny enough, that’s when they both knew. Then they shot gunned a White Claw together on Facetime from miles apart (Abby cheated and dumped out half). After about a month of texting and facetiming, Garrett flew Abby out to Iowa. In that visit and first time meeting, Abby met Garrett’s family and they went on their first double date bowling. When they made it back to the hotel, it said “Will you be my girlfriend?” spelled out with White Claws on the hotel bed. It was a yes! They dated for 3 more months, doing long distance communication and taking turns flying out to the other. Garrett met Abby’s family that Christmas and they were big fans. The two decided that long distance was hard and they needed to do something about it. Garrett planned to pack up and move everything to Abby’s small apartment in Charlotte so they could be together after 2.5 months of dating long distance. Sounds like a crazy thing to do! But they did it. Garrett and Apollo (dog) moved in and a few months later they got their own town home in an even better location in Charlotte. Fast forward 3 years later and here we are. Most couples don’t move in together after a few months, especially when you’ve only been with them on 4 occasions in person…. but that’s what they did. And it was the best risk either one of them ever took. They bring out the best in one another, but most importantly they exhibit respect and love always. Even in arguments and hard times. Their love is so strong and will continue to flourish and grow for years to come.

This was written in third person, but from the bottom of our hearts we want to thank you all for being apart of either of our journeys individually or being apart of our love story. We love you!

Tidbits

How did you first meet?

Via Facetime... and then shortly later at the Minneapolis airport. See Our Story! :)

What was your most memorable date?

Abby- My most memorable date was when we were in Boston for Christmas in 2022. Spontaneously Garrett said he wanted to take me to a nice steak restaurant in my hometown. It was such a sweet gesture and a fun night. We had apps at a bar next door first and shared a bottle of fine wine at the steak house.

Garrett- My most memorable date was our first alone date at Heist Brewery in Charlotte when I was visiting there for the first time. Being here for the first time everything just felt so right and it became one of my favorite places to be with my favorite person.

*Ultimately we're so lucky and get to date each other every single day. Going to bed next to one another every night feels like a sleepover you looked forward to having when you were 10 years old. We are best friends and there is never a dull moment.

What's your favorite activity together?

We love to hit the gym, go for walks, trying new restaurants/breweries, game nights

Where are you going for your honeymoon?

Italy and Greece! (eventually) we might be basic and do a mini one in Disney first right after getting married and just save up for the one we really want!

We’re on the same page about

Uplifting each other and always being one another's biggest fan/supporter. Both of us have become much better versions of ourselves since being together.

We take pride in

Our ability to ALWAYS stay respectful. During every tough conversation and disagreement, we have never once called each other names or put the other down. We are proud of ourselves for learning how to communicate in a healthy way.

How did he propose?

(in Abby's POV) We were in Greenville, SC for a family vacation in May of 2023. We went for a walk so "Garrett could try a drink at the Bohemian Hotel." On the way there, we stopped for a photo under a beautiful flower arch located in front of the gorgeous falls. While posing for the photo, Garrett said he was nervous and I wasn't sure why. He got down on one knee and popped the question after a thoughtful and beautiful little speech. We proceeded to the Bohemian for drinks shortly after and celebrated with a cheers. We made our way back to the condo to tell Ian (Abby's brother), and when we opened the door my best friends from home (MA) had flown in and driven with my friends from the Carolina's and had decorated the place for us. I had no clue they would even be there and it was such a magical and memorable weekend celebrating our engagement with those that matter most.
