Story

We casually met at Yemi's younger brother Goke's birthday party in New York City in 2014. We exchanged numbers and have shared stories and laughs ever since. When Adora went to Boston for graduate school, we tried our hand in long distance for a few years. It wasn't easy, but it definitely was worth it - we've grown together and love each other more because of the journey we have shared. Now, many buses, trains, and plane rides later, we're together in New York City enjoying every single moment in each other's company - time is precious and love is a blessing!

Tidbits

How did you first meet?

We first met at Yemi's younger brother Goke's birthday party in New York City in 2014.

Who made the first move? How?

Yemi all the way :) Adora left early from Goke's party to focus on studying for her upcoming GRE test, but Yemi reached out to exchange numbers before she left.

What's your favorite activity together?

Every Saturday and Sunday morning we workout together and head to a casual brunch spot in Astoria afterwards.

Where are you going for your honeymoon?

We are planning on enjoying the sunny beaches of Barbados!

Tell us about the proposal.

Yemi took Adora on her first trip to Canada to celebrate Valentine's Day. Despite weather delays/cancellations, we both made it to Montreal. Little did Adora know that she would be greeted to rose petals in their room leading to a decorated table. Thinking it was just Valentine's Day (because Yemi usually goes big for this occasion), Adora didn't think much when she entered the room and saw the rose petals greet her at the door leading to the table. But when she looked at the table, saw the note that said "one rose for one love, will you marry me?" and saw Yemi on one knee with a wide grin, Adora didn't expect it to be a night she was going to remember forever. Newly engaged, they enjoyed the long weekend with all the activities Yemi planned to explore in the city.

What's the best meal you have eaten together?

We've had a lot of great memories hanging with our respective families at Amarachi and Buka (both Nigerian restaurants in Brooklyn), but we always go to Hillstone restaurant to celebrate special occasions - we love the food, music, and cocktails! It never disappoints :)

What's the most memorable trip you have taken together?

Our most memorable trip was to Puerto Rico in March 2016. It was memorable because it was Adora's first year in graduate school, our first time travelling away together, and our first time to Puerto Rico.

Travel

Plane

Getting In

We recommend flying into John Glenn Columbus International Airport (CMH). Yes, Columbus has an "international" airport ...

Note

Getting Around

An uber/lyft is $20-25 from the airport to downtown Columbus and shared rides are reasonable as most of the locations are only a few miles away. If you'd like to explore the city a bit, we recommend renting a car. If booked early, rates are reasonable (~$50/day).

Hotel Product

Hotel LeVeque, Autograph Collection

We will be staying in this newly renovated hotel! It's a part of Marriott hotel collection for all those points aficionados out there :) It is ~3.5 miles from our wedding festivities, which are all right off of Broad Street. We have booked a limited number of rooms starting Thursday night up to and through Saturday night (you can book for only the nights you wish to book). The reserved rooms will be released on July 15th, 2019 so please book as early as possible! There are plenty of options outside of this that can be booked in downtown Columbus as well, but would book in advance!

Registry

Adora loves the ocean. Yemi loves a good adventure. We have decided that instead of a traditional registry to plan an unforgettable honeymoon in Barbados to celebrate the beginning of new chapter together. Our wedding registry consists of experiences and expenses for our honeymoon where guests can make contributions if so inclined. The biggest gift of all, however, is your presence on our Big Day. Thank you for your love, and we can’t wait to share our honeymoon adventures with you.
