Our Story

How we met you ask? Amanda had just moved home to NorCal at the start of the pandemic and downloaded a dating app - Hinge. Young, single Rob was swiping through his options on the app while driving through her hometown of Sacramento and the rest was history....

Of course it was Rob's charm that swindled Amanda beginning with his opening line to her "I'll kill spiders for you, if you teach me how to drive stick shift."

For 4 weeks they talked realizing they had various friends from Santa Barbara to Sacramento in common, and finally they agreed it was time to meet up... but Amanda came down with COVID, Aug. 2020 (although Rob figured she was trying to opt out of their date 😏!). Two weeks later she re-surfaced and asked for that date...well more like he had to meet her and her friend Lia for the seal of approval.

Now over 3 years later he has killed countless spiders and she finally showed him how to operate a clutch.

Tidbits

What was your most memorable date?

Our fourth date is when Amanda fell in love. Rob had planned every detail of the day perfectly yet acted as if it was all spontaneous - starting on Treasure Island then whipping through the city, grabbing a bottle of wine and heading to a romantic viewing spot of the SF bay.

Where are you going for your honeymoon?

Portugal and the Azores!!

What's the most memorable trip you have taken together?

We have been to the South of France, Mexico City, and the most recent trip of a lifetime ... a South African Safari!

The dorkiest thing about us is

So many... but one of our favs - instead of saying we were dating, Rob would call it "in escrow". Finally, when Rob got the courage to officially ask Amanda out, he phrased it as "well I guess we can close on escrow now". The most 'developer' way ever to ask someone out...

Now we have come full circle and have just closed escrow on a house in Walnut Creek!

Airbnb (a suggestion good for a group) *we know the landlord*

We happen to know the landlord and can vouch these are a good deal. They are two separate listings right next to each other. Each apartment has 2 beds, 2 baths for the group that wants to pile in and save some $

If you prefer to stay at a hotel versus a rental, please note we have included some options below. Most 3-4 star hotels would not let us book room block holds ... did we mention this was a popular place? We have included some 'semi-affordable for SB' options here just incase.

Common Questions

For all our friends and family who have lots of questions, please check out our Q & A first!

Are kids welcome?

As much as we love your little ones, our wedding reception is an 'Adults Only', 21 and over event.

Children are welcome to join everything up until that time. So YES that means both the Welcome Party on Friday and the Saturday Mass. Thank you!

What will the weather be like?

Santa Barbara is notorious for "June Gloom". Typically, its foggy in the morning and burns off in the afternoon. Hard to say what the temp will be, but be prepared for a mix of both warm and cold.

Please note last year it was a high of 71 degrees at 2pm.

Where should I park?

CHURCH: Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church has plenty of parking onsite for our ceremony.

RECEPTION: While the reception venue does have paid parking in the back, we recommend that everyone uber...better to be safe than sorry!

Are the ceremony and reception locations wheelchair accessible?

Yes, both are accessible.

What should I wear?

THEME: 'Garden Party' Formal

We want this to feel like an elevated garden party.
Google suggests the below as well

"For garden party formal, you’re still going to wear a classy, knee-length cocktail or floor length dress, but find a way to tie in the “garden” aspect – so women opt for spring summer colors or a long satin dress with a floral print rather than darker winter colors. For you men, you’re still going to wear a suit though... 😏"

As the ceremony is in a church please keep appropriate attire in mind

Is the wedding indoors or outdoors?

Our wedding ceremony is indoors at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and reception is located at El Paseo Restaurant, an indoor/outdoor venue.

What kind of shoes should/shouldn't I wear?

No grass is involved so feel free to wear whatever heel/ shoe you feel comfortable in. That is until they inevitably come off end of night when dancing begins...

Is it okay to take pictures with our phones and cameras during the wedding?

For the marriage ceremony in the church please no phones. There will be a videographer and photographer onsite to capture most moments.
