We can't wait to share our special day with you!

Story

Amanda lived in the same apartment complex as Ryan's good friends, Shawn and Sheila. He was always there hanging out with them and Shawn invited her to join them one night. They all quickly became good friends and after months of Shawn trying to convince them to date, they finally realized they had feelings for each other and started dating. Thanks, Shawn! :)

Tidbits

How did you first meet?

Tequila!

What's your favorite activity together?

We love to play video games together and love to skydive whenever we can!

Who's going to take out the trash?

Whoever happens to be closer to the trash :)

What's the most memorable trip you have taken together?

Our 'family trip' to California. It was actually before we started dating and we went on a road trip with our best friends to California. We had a fun packed long weekend which included a day at Six Flags, clubbing, lots of good food and drinks, and a trip to the beach... where Ryan left Amanda to drown more than once! We also spontaneously decided to go sky diving for the first time and it was incredible. After that trip the four of us got matching 'adventure' tattoos.

We are regulars at

Taco Tuesday :)

We’re on the same page about

What's important to us. And that's spending time with the people we love most. (You all!)

Getting In

We recommend flying into either LIR or SJO International Airport as both are about a 2.5-hour drive to La Fortuna. The Liberia International Airport (LIR), is also known as the Daniel Oduber Quiros International Airport. The Juan Santamaria International Airport in Alajuela, near the capital city, San Jose (Airport Code: SJO).

Q & A

For all our friends and family who have lots of questions, please check out our Q & A first!

When is the RSVP deadline?

Although the official RSVP date won’t be until December, we would appreciate a heads up if you make a decision sooner than that. It will really help with planning! :)

Is the wedding indoors or outdoors?

Our wedding ceremony is outdoors, but our reception will be covered :)

Where is Costa Rica?

Costa Rica is located roughly 10 degrees north of the equator in Central America. It is bordered by Nicaragua to the north and Panama to the south. The Caribbean Sea is to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west.

What should I wear?

It will be hot and we’ll be in the rainforest so be casual and comfortable! Beachwear, sundresses, sandals, shorts, tank tops every day. It's too hot for jeans. It can get a little chilly at night so a cover up or light jacket is a good idea for the evening.

Medical Access?

There is a Pharmacy right in the middle of town with a doctor on-site.

Coffee Shops?

Rain Forest Café
Amazing desserts and local coffee’s! This is a cute café located in downtown La Fortuna great for coffee, desserts and lunch!

Arábigos Coffee House
Excellent full service café, serving coffee, desserts, lunch & dinner from from 8am to 9pm. With a diverse and eclectic menu.

Soda La Hormiga – This is my personal favorite breakfast spot for typical Costa Rican at an inexpensive price point. This Soda is an authentic tipico Costa Rican style serving eggs, omelets, gallo pinto, sausage, carne en salsa, tortillas, Casados and much more! I have never had a bad meal here and I am always shocked at how inexpensive the price is when we get our bill.

Recommended Restaurants?

Kappa Sushi Fortuna
This is a small place with a very cute atmosphere with Fresh delicious sushi at a great price point! We had a Sushi Boat Special with 6 kinds of rolls and 2 glasses of wine for about $40 and it was some of the best sushi we have ever had in Costa Rica!

Lava Lounge Bar and Grill
Lava Lounge is a great local hang out known for its pura vida atmosphere and reggae music. They have a big menu ranging from Salads, sandwiches, wraps, burgers, traditional Costa Rican food and Pizza and pastas something for everyone.

Don Rufino Restaurant
Elegant more upscale atmosphere with an outstanding reputation! It is a preferred dining spot in the La Fortuna area, by beautifully mixing the best local flavors with those of the world cuisine. Although the appearance is elegant the atmosphere is surprisingly casual with great, friendly service.

What time is it in Costa Rica?

Costa Rica is -6 hours Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). The country does not change for Daylight Savings Time, so from mid-March to October, the time is the same as Mountain Standard Time (MST) in the United States. From November to mid-March, the time is the equivalent of Central Standard Time (CST) in the United States.

What is the food like in Costa Rica?

The main staples of Costa Rican food are rice, beans, vegetables, fruits and meats. The food is generally tasty and comes in several popular variants. You can also usually find traditional American or European style plates on most menus.

What Language is used in Costa Rica?

Spanish! Since English is taught in schools, many locals, especially those who work in the tourism industry speak a high level of English as well!

Do I Need a Passport?

Yes, a passport is mandatory and you must have a plane ticket showing you are leaving CR within 90 days.

What are the COVID travel requirements?

These requirements will most likely change between now and the wedding, but as of now:

1. Buy "travel medical plans" insurance:
Trawick has consistently been the cheapest and meets the requirements: . Please print a copy of the policy to bring it with you on your flight.

2. Health Pass:
Please fill this out within 2 days of arrival to Costa Rica. This is to confirm that you have the necessary insurance. We will send out a reminder text as well. Here is the link!

3. COVID test before flying home:
There is NO COVID test required to fly into Costa Rica, but it is required to fly out of Costa Rica and back into the USA. Rapid tests are acceptable! Testing will be available in Las Catalinas for $85 (exact details to come).
There are also self-administered tests you can buy in the U.S. and bring with you such as

Are major credit cards accepted?

Visa and MasterCard are widely accepted in Costa Rica. A much smaller percentage of businesses accept American Express or Discover. You should contact your credit card company or bank prior to visiting Costa Rica as they may place a security block for unusual foreign transaction if not. Some credit card companies will charge a 1 – 2% international transaction fee. You can often avoid this by changing your plan in advance or using a different credit card that does not charge foreign transaction fees instead. ATM machines are available in most towns. You will have to contact your bank in advance as not all ATM cards are set up for foreign transactions. Similar to credit cards, there is a chance you could be charged a foreign transaction fee.

Do I need to exchange money?

Nearly everybody accepts the U.S. dollar, so if you have dollars, you do not need to convert it. You will usually receive change in local Costa Rica colones. The exchange rate goes between 500 and 585 colones to $1 USD. You can exchange money at banks or at the airport.

Will my cell phone work?

Check with your phone carrier but most phone providers offer a daily rate to use your phone while traveling internationally.
Another option is you can turn off roaming and only use the phone when connected to a local wifi like at your hotel or an area restaurant. iphones for example you can use Facetime and text without fees while connected to a wifi.

Do I need an electric adapter?

Outlets are the same as U.S. - no electric adapter/converter needed!
