Story
Amanda & Zach met in 2013 when they were introduced through Zach's brother at a local bar. Their mothers and siblings had known each other for decades, but Amanda and Zach had never met until that night. During their first meeting, they exchanged pleasantries and went their separate ways. A few weeks later, at a Halloween party at that same bar, they crossed paths again, and again only spoke briefly. However, that was all it took.
A few weeks later, after an encouraging conversation with Zach's sister at that SAME local bar, Amanda reached out to Zach via Facebook. It was a bold move for her, but she had no other way to contact him. At first, Zach was oblivious to Amanda's romantic intentions, but quickly caught on and turned on the charm. They exchanged numbers and soon were talking nonstop. They eventually spent some real time together after Amanda invited Zach out to watch the Blackhawks game. After plenty of amazing dates and time spent together, and Amanda playing some hard to get, they officially became boyfriend and girlfriend.
The rest is history.
Eventually, they got a place together in the city. Life went on, and life was good. Then, on a sunny June day in 2017, Zach proposed to Amanda at the Lincoln Park Nature Boardwalk and surprised her afterward with a small get together of close family and friends at one of their favorite bars. After that amazing night, they started planning their wedding.
And you’re invited!
Tidbits
How did you first meet?
Our families have known each other for a while, but it wasn't until a few years ago that we ever met in passing (at Bourbon Street of all places).
Who made the first move? How?
She did. Amanda had seen him at a local bar from across the room but never approached. However, she did mention to her friend that she thought the oldest Wagner was looking good. Weeks later, Amanda saw Zach's sister at a benefit and Amanda started asking for details about Zach. Eventually, after some liquid courage, Amanda finally reached out to Zach on Facebook and the rest is history.
What was your most memorable date?
On our first date, in the middle of dinner and watching the Blackhawks game, the power went out at the restaurant. Zach and Amanda proceeded to stay at the restaurant to eat and enjoy some craft beers. Amanda and Zach used Zach's flashlight on his phone to find their way around the restaurant.
What's your favorite activity together?
Exploring and trying new exciting things together.
We love to explore different Chicago restaurants that offer some great wine and craft beer!
Where are you going for your honeymoon?
Italy, Ireland, or somewhere tropical with white beaches - still undecided. We are leaning towards Italy!
What's the best meal you have eaten together?
Balena, Zed 451, Amanda's traditional birthday dinner she makes for Zach (Veal Parm), etc. Amanda loves to cook - especially Italian food (Zach has learned a lot and has become a good cook).
What's the most memorable trip you have taken together?
Isla Mujeres - swimming with the dolphins and an entire day at Garrafon Park.
What nicknames do you have for each other?
Babes, Babers, Rumpers, Peeeeta, etc.
How did he propose?
Zach picked the proposal spot of the Bridge over South Pond at the Lincoln Park Nature Boardwalk because of the scenery and the view of the Chicago skyline, since they both love the city. To get Amanda there, Zach had to create a foolproof plan. He made up a fake work scavenger hunt that included taking a picture at the nature boardwalk. He also made up a fake private dinner event at a restaurant near the boardwalk that he "won" tickets to, as a means of getting them in the vicinity of the boardwalk. Zach convinced Amanda they should complete his scavenger hunt task before dinner, so they walked up to the middle of the bridge where Zach got down on one knee and forgot everything he planned to say. He did remember to ask the big question and Amanda said yes. The moment was caught by a photographer Zach hired, and their families were nearby to celebrate immediately after.
What traits best describe you as a couple?
Forgiving, humorous, silly, affectionate, caring, helpful, family oriented, trust worthy, down to earth, intelligent, etc. (the list goes on).
