Getting In

We recommend flying into San Diego International Airport, which is only a 10 minute Uber/Lyft/taxi from The Guild Hotel.

Car

Getting Downtown

We recommend taking a Lyft, Uber, or taxi from the airport to downtown. You can also take the 992 bus on MTS for $2.50. All weekend events will be either walking distance from The Guild or a short Lyft, Uber or taxi away so we don't recommend renting a car for those flying in.

For anyone driving, the parking garage next door to The Guild offers paid hotel parking. Overnight parking is included with hotel room nights booked at the Guild.

Airbnbs

We love Airbnbs! If you are interested in staying in an Airbnb, there are options in Downtown and Little Italy that are walking distance to The Guild Hotel. North Park, Hillcrest, Bankers Hill, Ocean Beach and Mission Beach are neighborhoods with Airbnb options that are all within a 10 minute Uber, Lyft, or taxi to the wedding venue. Although close to the hotel, we generally recommend trying to stay outside of the central Gaslamp Quarter (which gets a little crowded with baseball fans and clubbing crowds).

Things to do in San Diego

Bullet Point Empty

Balboa Park

This 1,200 acre urban park is right next to downtown. Originally built for the Panama-California Exposition, the beautiful historic buildings are home to many of San Diego's best museums.

Some favorites include:

- A walk through the park to experience the beautiful architecture and greenery. It's particularly good in the morning to beat the crowds.
- Model Railroad Museum (where Anton has been going with his dad since he was little)
- Panama 66 beer garden
- Japanese Friendship Garden

Bullet Point Empty

Little Italy

This walkable, buzzy neighborhood is located just a short walk north of the Guild and home to many of San Diego's newest and best restaurants and bars.

Some favorites include:

- Nolita Hall - great beer hall and restaurant; under the flight path with a skylight
- Herb & Wood - higher end, busy restaurant
- James Coffee - great coffee spot in a converted warehouse

The Embarcadero

The Embarcadero is a waterfront area with views out across the Bay and can be accessed by walking from the Guild a couple of blocks to the bay. Recent redevelopment of the area has created new urban parks and restaurants to enjoy along the way.

Some favorites include:

- Maritime Museum of San Diego - access to multiple historic ships including the Star of India sailing ship and USS Dolphin submarine
- USS Midway Museum - super interesting museum and where one of Anton's high school proms was
- Waterfront Park - public park located right along the waterfront
- Portal Coffee - nice little coffee shop just a block off of the waterfront
- Carnitas' Snack Shack - waterside open air restaurant and bar (just a couple minutes walk from the Guild!); great for a margarita and music
- Seaport Village - quaint village of restaurants and shops with views across to Coronado; note that it can get a bit busy with tourists on the weekend
- Seneca - new rooftop restaurant and bar with stunning views across the bay; located within the same hotel as Garibaldi - the location of our Friday welcome drinks event; reservations recommended
- Portside Pier - pavilion with multiple restaurants with great view of the bay; Topsail on the rooftop has great views

Bullet Point Empty

Coronado

Coronado is a beautiful beach town situated on a peninsula across the Bay from downtown and accessible from downtown by ferry or a short drive across the Coronado Bridge. The ferry stop is located at Broadway Pier (just a couple minutes walk from the Guild).

Some favorites include:

- The historic Hotel Del is a Walker family favorite and a great starting point for any day in Coronado.
- Walks along the beach, main downtown area along Orange Ave, or beautiful residential neighborhood
- Coronado Brewing Company

Bankers Hill, Mission Hills, University Heights, North Park, South Park, East Village

These neighborhoods are all located around the perimeter of Balboa Park and in close proximity to downtown. They have lots of great restaurants, coffee shops, and breweries.

Some favorites include:

- North Park Brewing (Bankers Hill) - great new outpost of this North Park-based brewery
- Wolf in the Woods (Mission Hills) - cute wine bar with a New Mexico theme
- Madison (University Heights) - cozy restaurant with a beautiful wooden interior
- La Puerta (Mission Hills) - Mexican spot with a great patio

- IZOLA Bakery (East Village) - fantastic baked goods in bright warehouse space

Point Loma

Point Loma is just across the bay from downtown and a short uber or bus ride away from the Guild. Anton's sister and brother-in-law live here and have found lots of great spots that we all enjoy.

Some highlights include:
- Cabrillo National Monument - historic monument with stunning views across the bay to downtown
- Liberty Station - restaurant, retail, arts and open space complex in the redeveloped former naval training center. Highlights include wandering through the beautiful courtyards, food hall, Moniker store and coffee shop, and Stone's Brewing.
- Portside Coffee & Gelato - little coffee stand to pick up a coffee to go for a walk along the bay path

Story

Both fresh out of college and living as broke Brooklynites, we first connected on storied dating app Tinder in the fall of 2015. After chatting about our shared love of Scandinavian culture and Anton's preppy US Open photos, Duncan failed to respond to Anton's invitation for dinner and the conversation went the way that most do on Tinder. It dropped off.

Over a year later, in early 2017, we both happened to end up at one of our mutual favorite Brooklyn bars, Metropolitan, on a lively Friday night. With some liquid courage, Anton approached Duncan, and likely also because of the "liquid courage," asked point-blank "Duncan Hall?" After Duncan’s initial terror that a seemingly random stranger knew his first and last name had passed, we picked up right where we had left off. This time around, Duncan asked Anton on our first official date at Supper in the East Village. As we parted ways to catch trains home, we both knew that this relationship was going to be special, and before we knew it, things began to move rather quickly. We went to each of our older sisters' weddings, began to discuss long term plans away from New York, and moved into our first apartment together on a magical Brooklyn Heights block just steps from the Promenade.

Law school took Duncan to Philly in August of 2019, and a dream job took Anton to San Francisco in February of 2020. We spent a couple of pandemic years traveling back and forth, calling two cities home. We figure that after making it through quarantining together in our "cozy" studio apartments and figuring out how to both join Zoom video calls from a 400-square-foot space, we're pretty well equipped for what life throws at us next (or at the very least, we might be pretty good at this "marriage" thing).

We happily said goodbye to cross country red eyes and settled back into living together full time at the start of summer 2022. We marked our first weekend living in the same place together for the first time in over 2 years, by getting engaged at the top of Buena Vista Park, watching a beautiful sunset over San Francisco.

Tidbits

Who's going to take out the trash?

Oh, Anton. No question.

What was your most memorable date?

Anton, for their second date, took Duncan to Alamo Drafthouse (a movie theater chain from Austin, TX, where Duncan is from). Anton remembered that Duncan mentioned sometimes he didn't love going to the movies, especially for dates, because it was a long time to focus on one thing (and you don't get to talk to each other). Anton also remembered that Duncan liked animated movies. The evening's showings at Alamo that night? The 2017 Oscar-Nominated Animated Shorts. That was Duncan's first experience with Anton's constant thoughtfulness.

What's your favorite activity together?

Probably playing board games or spending an afternoon at a brewery. Or even better, spending an afternoon playing board games at a brewery.

Where are you going for your honeymoon?

We have a (very) long list of destinations that we hope to visit one day! For our honeymoon, we've been researching lots of spots (Patagonia, New Zealand, Southest Asia) to decide on the perfect destination.

What's the best meal you have eaten together?

Duncan used to live above a coffee shop in Greenpoint, Brooklyn called Early which made the best BECs (bagon egg and cheese). We still think very fondly of starting weekend mornings with those.

What's the most memorable trip you have taken together?

Oslo, Norway. Duncan had previously been to Bergen, Norway, in 2013, while studying abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark. It had been on his bucket list since the third grade (when he found out some Norwegians grow grass on their roofs, which results in lots of pictures of goats eating grass on top of houses), and suffice to say, it lived up to the hype.

Fast forward to 2018, when Duncan's work took him to Warsaw, Poland. Taking advantage of Duncan's paid-for flights to/from Europe, Anton booked a round trip ticket to Oslo from New York, for a whopping $300. We enjoyed the sunlight until 11 PM and the incredible weather (one day, we pretended we were Norwegians and sunbathed downtown on the piers with the locals). One of the photos floating around our website is from the top of Holmenkollen Ski Museum!

We’re on the same page about

Our gratitude for having so many wonderful people and loving relationships in our lives. We love spending our time traveling to visit the people we care about. So if you have an open guest room, expect a visit from us (honestly, whether you invite us or not).

The dorkiest thing about us is

We've probably watched every preteen romcom on Netflix (at least once). Anton's fave? To All the Boys I've Loved Before. Duncan's? Heartstopper.

We are regulars at

Our neighborhood parks! From Transmitter Park (Brooklyn) to Rittenhouse Square (Philly) to Duboce Park (San Francisco), we love nothing more than taking a blanket to our local park to spend a lazy weekend afternoon.

Registry

Your presence on our big day means THE WORLD to us and is the absolute best gift we could ask for!! We recognize what a big commitment it is to take a few days out of your lives to join us in San Diego and we are incredibly appreciative.

As they say, your presence is present enough. If you would like to give us a gift as we start our lives as a married couple, we would welcome contributions to our honeymoon fund or a donation to these organizations that are very close to our hearts.

We have setup honeymoon and donation funds via Zola.
