Getting into Athens

If you’re coming to Greece for the first time, you will love it! Getting around is relatively easy, and most Greeks are fluent in English. We will of course be just a phone call away (our mobile numbers will be provided to all guests).

We recommend flying into Athens International Airport (ATH).

Some neighbourhoods we recommend for you to stay in: Pagrati, Koukaki, Kolonaki.

Please do not hesitate to ask us about our favourite restaurants in Athens!

Ferry

Getting to Hydra

We chose Hydra because it’s idyllic and romantic – the only Greek island where no motor vehicles are allowed – and it’s one of the easiest to access by speed ferry from Piraeus, the port of Athens (~90min. with many daily routes).

There are two ways of getting to Hydra from Athens, which is also known as Idra by the locals (pronounce it ee-thra if you want locals to understand). The simplest one is to book a ferry from the port in Athens (Piraeus - please beware because there are two ports in Athens). You can book your two-way ferry on Hellenic Seaways () going from Piraeus to Hydra or Ferryhopper ().

You can easily get to Piraeus by public transportation or by taxi. Give yourself sufficient time at the port for boarding, and ensure that you have all the proper PCR tests and documentation.

IMPORTANT 1: Please note that if you have rented a car or have come to Piraeus by car, you will need to arrange for drop-off or long-term car parking, as Hydra is a pedestrian-only island (no cars allowed).

IMPORTANT 2: Please book your ferry ASAP. The ferries book out quickly.

IMPORTANT 3: Please review online COVID-19 regulations that may be requested in order to board the ferry.

As a back-up, the other option is to drive to Metoxi, a small town 2.5 hours from Athens, and take a 30 min. ferry from there. You cannot pre-book the ferry, all the information can be found here: .

Note

If you plan to rent a car please read this

We know that many of you are planning to extend their stay in Greece before/after the wedding event. Please know that Greece has gotten very strict recently in terms of requiring visitors to have an International Driving Permit (IDP). While Hydra does not allow cars, you may need one for another destination.

If you are in Canada, you can get it for 20$ and it is lasts for one year. Here is more information about it:

For Americans:

For other countries, you can find more information on Google.
