Story

Tyler and I met our first year of law school at Baylor. Sitting in the main hall with a friend one day (hey, Kate!), a classmate walked up and asked, "hey Bethany, can I sit here?" We exchanged small talk, while internally I was racking my brain for what his name was and whether we'd met before. I went home and scanned our class group to find him. "Tyler." A few weeks later, the Gators played the Aggies and, as the sole Floridian in our class, let alone sole Gator, I was feeling confident with the Gators up at the half and boldly boasted in our class group chat, "chomp chomp Aggies!" The Aggies came back to beat the Gators and Tyler didn't miss an opportunity in class the following Monday to make a sarcastic comment reminding me of it. We started to run in same circle of friends, growing our friendship. Tyler was horrified to learn of my complete lack of exposure to "classic" movies and messaged me one evening to let me know National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation was on and one of his favorite scenes was about to begin–the one where my namesake, Aunt Bethany, is asked to say a prayer over Christmas dinner and recites the Pledge of Allegiance instead. Apparently she also wraps her cat up in a gift box, which he liked to think was something else I would do. Our friendship continued to grow and I knew I felt more for him when his "happy birthday" text that December was the only one I wanted to receive. We finished our required oral advocacy class competition that Spring and finally had a break from school. We decided to take the risk that inevitably comes with friends who grow into something more. We started dating in March of 2018 and have been through adventure after adventure ever since. We're both introverted enough that I doubt we would have met had we not been in the same starting class at Baylor. Tyler sped up his law school timeline, graduating from Texas A&M in three years, and I slowed mine down by taking two years to teach abroad before law school, a little detail that reminds me how our paths in life lead us where we're meant to be. Tyler is the one I've prayed for and we are so excited to begin life's next chapter!

Tidbits

How did you first meet?

See Our Story!

What was your most memorable date?

Tyler's second time on a horse (his first was with a trusted friend in Florida!), we went on a trail ride in Waco. When we reached the top of the bluff, another guest's horse spooked and she fell, ultimately declaring she would not get back on. We still had the whole ride back to the ranch and the horse who caused the spook rode behind Tyler's mount the whole way. Tyler claims it was a near-death experience for him and he'll never ride again, but we're too big of Yellowstone fans for that to last.

What's your favorite activity together?

We love live music and are always planning our next country music concert at a quaint local venue. We also enjoy visiting small town antique shops, hiking in the Hill Country, and playing with our cat, Baxter.

Where are you going for your honeymoon?

We are spending six nights in Sorrento, Italy, followed by three nights in Madrid, Spain!

What's the best meal you have eaten together?

On Valentine's Day 2021, we were stuck in Boerne during the winter storm that covered Texas for a week. The only restaurant that was open was a small German place with a set Valentine's Day three-course meal complete with chocolate soup and beef tenderloin.

What's the most memorable trip you have taken together?

Tyler proposed on our trip to Glacier National Park last October–definitely one of our favorite memories!

We’re on the same page about

Spending time with the people we love most. (You all!)

A life goal of ours

To own acreage!

The dorkiest thing about us is

We still talk through legal issues that we each encounter at work, noodling through different outcomes and policy.

We are regulars at

We still have our Waco favorites, which include George's, Taqueria #9, and Lula Jane's. In Georgetown, we love El Monumento.

We take pride in

Our (new to us!) home in Georgetown that we just purchased in April.

Your presence is enough of a present to us! But for those of you who are stubborn, we've put together a wish-list to help you out.
