Joy Proposal Story: April & Vito

by Cali Pitchel

An engagement at one of the world’s best restaurants, in a cave, on the Adriatic Sea? Yes please. April and Vito met through mutual friends in Chicago. They’ve been together for three years, and now they’re planning their wedding. Read on for the proposal details, how they stay sane during wedding planning, and what joy means to them.

Give us the details! When? Where? How?

Vito took April to Grotta Palazzese in Polignano, Italy—a top 25 restaurant in the world! Vito had purchased the ring in the states a few months prior. The day Vito proposed, the ring was hidden deep in his jacket pocket, so April wouldn’t notice a ring box. The restaurant, which is located inside a cave, opened at 7:00pm, which is the time the reservation was at. It was very windy that day. They sat along the railing inside the cave right on the Adriatic Sea. The view was unbelievable, literally breath taking.

Life is hard enough as it is. There are many hardships that you have to go through and that’s a part of life, but marriage—having a partner—is what you need to get through those hard times, as well as having someone there for the great times.

Vito and April decided to take pictures and a selfie by the railing. Then Vito turned to April and said how much he loved her. He explained how she is his best friend and how he loves waking up next to her every morning, but in order to keep doing that, she would have to answer his next question, he got down on one knee while pulling the ring and box out of his pocket and said, “Will you marry me?” She immediately put her hands to cover her mouth, crying, nodded and said “Yes!” Then he slipped the ring on her finger, stood up, and they hugged and kissed. Then Vito pointed to the photographer that he had hired, who was hidden, taking pictures and video, capturing the entire proposal!

It is the most incredible engagement story ever, Vito is the most perfect man, and I am the luckiest girl in the world. I can not wait to spend the rest of my life with him, as Mrs. Notarnicola!

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

Our favorite so far has been booking the venue, but my favorite so far was finding the one, (besides my man) my wedding dress!!!

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

Knowing there is time to plan. With almost two years between the proposal and the wedding date, having time to plan makes it easier. When things get really crazy I look down at my gorgeous ring and smile, because I am reminded that really the most important thing is my fiance—and all I want is to be married to him, the man of my dreams.

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?

Add lots of pictures, that’s fun for the guests to see. Also, having the registry on there with a link helps everything be in one place and makes it easier for everyone.

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?

Joy and love for me means never having to feel alone, which is the true meaning of having a forever, life partner. Life is hard enough as it is. There are many hardships that you have to go through and that’s a part of life, but marriage—having a partner—is what you need to get through those hard times, as well as having someone there for the great times. I truly am happy with my future life partner and it brings me joy knowing I get to spend the rest of my life with that person!

When things get really crazy I look down at my gorgeous ring and smile, because I am reminded that really the most important thing is my fiance—and all I want is to be married to him, the man of my dreams.
