Joy Proposal Story: Ben & Karissa

by Kelsey Vickers

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

My proposal was truly fit for a mermaid! In December 2015, we were visiting my family in Hawaii for Christmas and New Years. On December 30th, we drove up to the North Shore to one of my favorite childhood spots, Sharks Cove in Pupukea (my dad always took us snorkeling there). While we were snorkeling around Sharks Cove Ben was picking up cool findings to show me. Then, when we were in the knee-deep water, he got down on his knees and pulled out the ring and said, “How about this one?” I was like, “Did you find that?!” (I did know a guy who found a ring on the beach before). Ben said, “No, I’m asking you to marry me!” I said, “Are you serious?! Yes, of course, I will marry you!” I really thought he would never ask! Ben had the ring in the velcro pouch of his shorts pocket, risky, I know. It was literally the best date! Then we went to Turtle Bay Hilton to celebrate! My whole family knew before me because my dad got really excited when Ben asked and he told everyone.

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

I have enjoyed talking to all my friends and getting their advice, they are so helpful! My best friend Grace is getting married a month before me, so we have a lot to talk about.

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

At first, I was pretty calm. Now that it’s three months away I feel like I just need Ben to tell me that everything will be fine!

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

I chose Joy because I really liked the story and tidbits portions. I also like how everyone can RSVP on our website! Joy is really easy to use and I’m able to keep all of our information in one place, which helps me stay organized. Plus, it’s really aesthetically pleasing!”

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?

I would tell them to use this website for everything. The guest list, RSVP list, registry, wedding party, photos of everyone, hotel accommodations, schedule, etc.

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?

Does this mean that I can keep my website up forever? I love that! I was looking for a friend of mines wedding site from 2015 and they took it down. This was not a Joy website and that was kind of disappointing.
