Joy Proposal Story: Jack & Kate

by Cali Pitchel

How did the two of you meet?

At a softball scrimmage initially, but we really connected for the first time at a Yankee’s game in Anaheim – it was a setup by a friend!

Joy is a state of mind and feeling, that makes the corners of your mouth turn upwards and cause a sparkle in your eye.

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

It was his birthday, April 6th of this year. He now tells me that his plan was to do it later in the summer, but he woke up that morning and decided in the shower that it was the day! He had no plan and no ring and pulled it all together in about 12 hours. He proposed at his karaoke birthday party, with the help of a couple friends, one of whom was the Karaoke host. He signed us up for a duet, and then pretended to have microphone problems, at which point he was prompted to make a speech, all of which was caught on video. Then we sang the duet and toasted with all our friends. It was incredible!

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

Reconnecting with friends near and far that we don’t get to see very often!

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

Just trying to stay methodical and organized. Doing a little bit of something each day helps keep everything from feeling unmanageable. Also, surrounding ourselves with good friends helps!

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

I love the features of the site, especially the fact that guests can download an app to make it super easy!

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?

Take your time and really poke around the site. Play with features you like, use what works and get rid of what doesn’t fit for you. Don’t be afraid to be creative and have fun with it!

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?

Joy is a state of mind and feeling, that makes the corners of your mouth turn upwards and cause a sparkle in your eye. The memories created or caught on film or experienced (not just on your wedding day) but throughout your life with people you love, or through doing things that make you happy- continually feed this sense of joy.
