Joy Proposal Story: Jaime & Shawn

by Cali Pitchel

How did the two of you meet?

We meet at Penn State.

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

After forgetting about out 10 year anniversary, Shawn new he had to do something big for the 11th year. So, Shawn scheduled my mother up to babysit our four daughters for the entire day, January 8th, 2017. In the morning he took me for coffee and then surprised me by taking us out for massages. We then stopped for breakfast, did some shopping, and went home to get dressed and ready for the evening. I did not know what I was in for,  I just knew I had to look nice and be ready by 4pm. We headed into Philadelphia and got to my favorite sky-top restaurant called R2L just in time for a table with an amazing sunset view. The table had rose petals, a bouquet of roses, and candles on it.
“The amount of thought and work he put into this ahead of time was amazing!”
The waitress brought me my favorite bottle of Pinot (which he had dropped off the day prior because they did not have it). We enjoyed an amazing dinner and then the waitress asked if we wanted a tour of their VIP area of the dining room. She walked us down a hallway to a private room with an amazing views of Philadelphia’s City Hall. I noticed it was empty but there were roses petals and candles lit all over. which was confusing. Then, I heard Shawn talking to me and saw him kneel down to propose. Of course I said yes! He had the waitress record the entire thing and the ring and the moment was perfect. Before returning to the table he had the chef bake us our own cake that said I cant wait to be your hubby on it and we had champagne. All of this under the skyline. When returning to my parents to get our daughters, we were greeted by 20 or so of our closest family and friends to congratulate us, which he planned. The amount of thought and work he put into this ahead of time was amazing!

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

We would have to say all of the love and attention from everyone has been the best! We’ve also enjoyed all the time spent together viewing venues, sampling food, etc. For us, anything alone without the kids is a date!

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

By breaking it down into groups, sticking to my gut feeling on things, and trusting family and friends.

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

We love the amount of details that you can include!

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?

We would advise couples to break it up and do it in pieces, over the course of a few weeks. This way you can really give good details on whichever area or section you are working on at the time. We also suggest allowing each other to read the love story and tidbits so that each person knows exactly what is going to be made public.

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?

It means that we can not forget the feelings that we have now and the happiness we will have the day of the wedding, especially during the hard and struggling times. It’s the feeling of happiness from our wedding day that we have to use during those hard times to remind ourselves of the joy and love that really exists in this relationship. Those feelings and memories of those feelings never go away. They are created at the wedding and then are remembered forever.
