Joy Proposal Story: Judith & Adam

by Cali Pitchel

How did the two of you meet?

We met while living in San Diego through our mutual friend, Derrick. Derrick was the Hospital Corpsman assigned to Adam’s unit in Iraq and was my Navy friend. Derrick showed Adam a picture of me and of course, he became smitten. We talked and texted one another for a month or so and finally decided to meet, so we went to the beach for a few hours and had Chinese take-out afterwards.
I automatically feel joy and happiness thinking of how wonderful that moment was, which lasts a lifetime.

How long have you been together?

10 years!

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

He proposed where we had our first date at Filippi’s Restaurant in San Diego over the 4th of July weekend in 2015. He knew that I hate public proposals, so as we were walking up to the restaurant he asked a bystander to take a picture of us and he asked her to countdown from 3. So when she got to 1, he dropped down on his knee and proposed. It was amazing, plus we have pictures of him proposing! 🙂

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

Definitely the catering aspect and planning all decorations, from centerpieces to our guest sign-in book!

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

I am pretty calm under pressure and am great at organizing and budgeting, so that has been very helpful.

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

It’s super user-friendly and I love the website options.

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?

I still haven’t quite mastered this, but I think I’m pretty close. It’s helpful that your website already has pre-populated different tabs that many couples use, so that has helped me stay organized!

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?

The emotion of joy does last forever. Especially thinking back of those special moments in my lifetime, I automatically feel joy and happiness thinking of how wonderful that moment was, which lasts a lifetime!
