Joy Proposal Story: Kate & Adam

by Cali Pitchel

How did the two of you meet?

We met on the dating app, Bumble.

How long have you been together?

We had been together just 3 days just of 1 year when Adam proposed! We’ve been together a little over a year and a half now.

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

The proposal was one of the happiest days of my life! Adam put so much thought and planning into the day, both our families were in on it! Adam’s family owns a Duffy boat and he had taken me out on it for one of our very first dates. His family frequently uses it for bay cruises, so I didn’t think anything of it when he told me that before a family dinner one night we were all going to take a bay cruise. His father recently had knee surgery so the ruse was that Adam and I had to go get the boat and move it to a dock closer to the house so his father would have less distance to walk. We got in the boat and started reminiscing on how wonderful the past year had been. I started tearing up before anything even happened just thinking about how happy I was. About a month prior to this, I had a dream where Adam had proposed with an ugly gaudy ring in the shape of a flower. In my dream I had told him “yes,” and repeated the story to him when I had woken up as proof that I loved him so much I would say yes even with an ugly ring.

With the right partner, you’re able to find joy in the small things every day!

So imagine my surprise when Adam pulled out that ugly ring claiming it will be a placeholder until the real thing! I laughingly accept the ring and almost immediately he noticed that there’s a stone missing. He dropped to the floor and started to search for the missing stone, and when he stood up, he had a gorgeous diamond ring and asked me to marry him. I immediately burst into happy tears and say “YES!” We face-timed my parents who live in northern California, and he broke out the bottle of champagne that he had stored on the ship. Eventually, we made our way back to the dock and his whole family was there cheering with balloons and champagne. I went to step off the boat and the first person I saw was my brother! Adam arranged for my brother and his girlfriend to make the trip down from LA to celebrate with us. The rest of the night was a wonderful party spent with our two families.

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

My favorite experience has been our trips to Paso Robles. We’re doing a destination wedding in wine country, so we have had a blast exploring and of course, wine tasting!

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

I try and keep the focus on this being a day celebrating the two of us and our love for each other. That’s not to say things don’t get stressful, they definitely do!
