Joy Proposal Story: Megan & KC

by Cali Pitchel

How did the two of you meet?

We met at a whiskey club meeting that began at Dempsy’s pub in Wichita, KS. It started as a few co-workers getting together for a drink until one of Megan’s co-workers, RJ, decided to invite his college friend to join in on the fun. KC joined the crew, just two days before he was about to head out West and start his new life. It was nothing more than a casual encounter over drinks, food, pool, and a little dancing. The night ended with a few simple good-byes and everyone went on their way. After a few days passed, RJ thought it would be fun to play match-maker (No, really he sang the song and everything). That same day, Megan got up the nerve to ask her co-worker about his cute friend from the other night in hopes to get his phone number. Little did she know, RJ had already given KC her number just a few hours prior. Text messages began to fly back and forth from afar; KC on the west coast and Megan in Kansas. Eventually, texting turned into phone calls and phone calls turned into cross-country visits. KC drove from Seattle to Dallas, TX to meet Megan for a fourth of July party. They met on July 2 – hence the July 2nd wedding date. And the rest is history!
Your wedding may only last a day but you will remember the joy in your heart for the rest of your life.

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

Sometimes thinking you are deathly ill is simply just caused by nerves. Megan unknowingly made it extremely difficult for KC to pull off the engagement. So difficult in fact, he had to discard his original plan that involved a walk on Cocoa beach at sunset while his older brother trailed behind to sneak photos of the entire proposal.  KC & Megan had flown to Orlando Florida for a family wedding. The initial plan was to spend the first night enjoying all of what Orlando had to offer. The second day was his cousin’s wedding, and after he planned to sweep Megan away to Cocoa beach for the afternoon. Well, KC had been acting weird all weekend and complaining of stomach pains. He was so nervous that he actually felt physically ill! Megan, unaware of why KC was sick was so concerned that she refused to go to the beach and wanted him to go back to the condo they were staying at to lay down. KC, realizing his entire proposal plan was crashing, had to come up with a back up plan and fast. Luckily, he found a great alternative. Late that night KC asked Megan to go for a walk around the complex, and as they walked they came to a gazebo on a small pond. Standing under the gazebo, KC took out his phone to show Megan a video. Megan was still completely oblivious to what was about to happen as watching videos on YouTube was something they had done together a million other times. She finally began to put two and two together as the video neared the end. KC bent down on one knee just as the words “Today I asked you to marry me” appeared on the screen. Unable to string together a coherent sentence KC managed to squeak out the four words Megan had been waiting for… and here we are today!

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

We wanted a unique wedding ceremony so the plan is to hold a 4 day mini-vacation on table rock lake. Most of our friends and family are spread out all across the US so being able to offer a 3 day get-away was the perfect idea. We think planning the location and vibe of what we want, has been the most fun so-far.

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

We are trying to take the “least stressed” route of having a wedding by making it relaxing and non-traditional, but let’s be honest, planning any event no matter how low-key is very stressful! I think we handle the pressure by conquering one thing at a time and only worrying about our end goal-which is to be happy and have a wonderful weekend filled with friends and family who love us.

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

Making our page on withjoy.com has been fun and we are entirely less stressed because we can manage all of the invites, RSVP, and key guest information all in one place. We also love how we can add FAQs, tidbits, and our story to our page to make it unique and fun for our guests to read!

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?

We loved how we can add and subtract pages to make our site specific to OUR wedding. Because our wedding is on the lake, we made sure to add a Travel & Lodging page that included info on boat rentals. We also tailored our RSVP questions to include a Q&A for our pre-wedding field day. Whatever you do to make your wedding unique, don’t forget you can add and edit almost everything on withjoy.com to make your wedding completely unique and representative of what you want for your guests and for yourself on your dream day.

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?

It’s the memories you make on that ONE day that will last forever. It’s the memory of smiling so much your jaw hurts but you don’t care because you are completely and utterly happy. It’s remembering the laughter, and the look of pure bliss on your partner’s face. It’s the love you feel in your heart and knowing you will feel that way for the rest of your life. It’s the sense of triumph you feel after you pulled off the perfect ceremony. Your wedding may only last a day but you will remember the joy in your heart for the rest of your life.
