Joy Proposal Story: Taylor & Brian

by Kelsey Vickers

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

As a preface, I may have spoiled the ring surprise a little bit. I was anxious about whether or not she would like it and started asking too many questions. So I knew I had to do something good for the proposal! We went to Portland, ME for the weekend. Friday we saw The Shins (her favorite band) and stayed in this gorgeous Victorian style house redone very modern (another one of her favorite things). Saturday she slept in and I spent the morning writing her a letter. I woke her up with Cardamom coffee and we went to Duck Fat, a Portland must-try! We then caught an afternoon Ferry to Peaks Island. We got coffee and rented bikes. After an hour of me practicing my speech and trying to get the courage up, I pulled her off the road and we climbed the rocks covering the beach. I didn’t think this part through and had to deep lunge instead of kneeling when asking her. It ended up coming off charming (I hope) and she said, “Yes!” After 15 minutes of crying, laughing, and hugs she finally looked down at the ring on her finger. I knew after seeing her face that I nailed it! After another 15 minutes, I finally got a chance to give my semi-prepared speech and we called almost everyone right there from the rocks.

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

Our favorite experience so far has been visiting with our amazing wedding planner, Nicole Mower of Nicole Mower Weddings & Events. We met her at her home in Portsmouth, NH and drove up to Norway, ME together. We talked the whole time about our lives and had a great opportunity to get to know each other. We visited the site of our wedding, fell instantly in love, and returned to New Hampshire to top the day off with tacos and Margaritas.

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

It’s so easy to navigate and the interface is simple and beautiful. Just our style!

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?

I would recommend taking advantage of the tidbits section. It will allow your guests to get to know not only your new spouse but also understand you as a couple! It can also fill them in on the small, fun details and events in your lives together, so far.

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?

This is just a perfect sentiment. A wedding day is a just one day when you get to celebrate the promise you are making to your partner. I think weddings are special. The whole idea is to celebrate how happy your life has become with your new spouse. You’re bridging the gap between ‘me’ and ‘we’. It’s a springboard of joy to launch you into your new life together!
