¿Polterabend?
On Friday, June 22nd, we're kicking off our wedding celebrations with a Spanish version of the German "Polterabend".
The Polterabend is a German wedding custom in which, on the night before the wedding, the guests break porcelain - among many other strange customs - to bring luck to the couple's marriage. The belief in the effectiveness of this custom is expressed by the old adage: "Shards bring luck" (German: Scherben bringen Glück). If you have old porcelain you've been dying to get rid of, feel free to bring it.
The Polterabend normally takes place in front of the house of the bride (or in this case of the father). The couple generally announces the occasion but does not specifically send out individual invitations. Word spreads via word of mouth, so please let everyone know! Something to eat and/or drink is arranged (either provided for or requested of the guests).
The actual high point of the custom is the throwing onto the ground of porcelain that has been brought by guests. However, stoneware, flowerpots or ceramics such as tiles, sinks and toilet bowls are also happily thrown items. Metal objects such as tin cans and bottle tops are brought along to the festivities. Glass is not broken because for some glass symbolises happiness. Mirrors should not be broken due to the old superstition that breaking a mirror will bring seven years of bad luck.

We highly recommend to use the bus service since. Ubers can get expensive since its a bit of a far trip.
