The Wedding Bowl at Cuvier Park, La Jolla, Ca

Story

We met while we were both working at Silver Peak Brewery in Reno. The first time I saw her it was over. We were working a catering event at the National Automobile Museum and I clearly remember saying in my head, "She will be mine. Oh yes, she will be mine." a la Wayne's World. However, not being one to make the first move, and the fact that we worked at different locations, it took a few months before she seemed to notice me.
I was always trying to find an excuse to go to see her bartend. "They need more glassware at the Slice? I'll take them over!" "A door was squeaking at the Slice? I'm your guy!" "There's a Sri Lankan cricket match going on? Lets go to the ol Slice and check it out!" Finally, after a few suave moves and many enthralling details on the art of making (drinking) Gose and Lambic style beers, she decided to give me a chance.

Tidbits

Who made the first move? How?

After a couple of months of flirting, a mutual friend dropping all kinds of hints, and crossed paths I finally decided "tonight I am going to kiss him"...

We had a wine tasting scheduled at work and I knew he was going to be there.... The whole time all I could do was look across the room and wonder how am I going to pull this off! After the tasting, a small group of us headed out to a local place to continue our study of all things delicious. It took me hours to work up the nerve to make the first move (I knew he wasn't going to) and I am so glad I did!

What was your most memorable date?

We spent the first six years of our lives together dating and traveling. Together we traveled to Mexico, New York, Thailand, Japan, Arizona, Colorado, Maui, and more. Once we have a family out of diapers we are excited to continue our love for exploring the world!

One of our all-time favorite trips was a spontaneous "we need to get out of town" trip to San Diego over Thanksgiving 2017. We fell in love with the modern city, mild Mediterranean-like climate, amazing mexi-cali flavors, and fresh Pacific Air. We spent our days going to museums, golfing, eating, and enjoying the gorgeous city. Our love for this city, and for each other, is why we have decided it is the perfect destination for us to say 'I do!"

Where are you going for your honeymoon?

We want to head south for winter 2024 - somewhere warm, with beautiful beaches, a rich history to explore, and sunshine!

We’re on the same page about

Most everything! What's important to us, how to raise our children, and what we want out of our lives. ....Now, the day I convince Matthew to get a puppy we will be 100% on, haha!

A life goal of ours

Is to be the owners and operators of our own farm that supports and provides nutrition for our family, while facilitating Sarah's love for growing and Matty's love for cooking up the freshest and most delicious ingredients. We've got the wheels in motion and are excited to be working toward our goal.

We take pride in

The planning of this wedding event. We've been engaged for four years now, and with babies and the pandemic, it's been a long road to find our way to planning a special day to celebrate our love. To share this time with the people we love most in the world is a dream come true. Thank you for being here - we love you all!

Note

Where to stay

The wedding festivities will be taking place in La Jolla but there may be limited options as it is a relatively small community. Moving south form La Jolla are three beach communities.
All are great options if you'd like to stay near the beach!
5-10 mins - Pacific Beach- laid-back beach vibe, lots of restaurants/shops
15-20 mins - Mission Beach- family friendly with all the beachy things
20-30 mins - Ocean Beach- Long sandy beaches

Moving inland:
15-20 mins - "Hotel Circle" is the area with he highest concentration of hotels and is near the airport and close to everything.
20-30 mins - Downtown has plenty of good hotel options and is close to the San Diego waterfront as well as Little Italy
20 - 30 mins - North Park is more inland and is the place to be if your into hip things.
20-30 mins - Balboa Park also has hotel options and there is always something going in the park.

Note

Getting around.

While traffic can be an issue, it is relatively easy to get around.
Uber and Lyft operate throughout the city, but parking is easily accessible everywhere and we find that having a rental car is the best way to get around.

Public transit is available but is fairly limited, especially when trying to get to the beach. There is a decent trolley system that goes into downtown.

Q & A

For all our friends and family who have lots of questions, please check out our Q & A first!

When is the RSVP deadline?

Please RSVP by April 15th, so we can have an accurate headcount. :)

Can I bring a date?

Please check your invite for your +1!

Are kids welcome?

Yes! Our little ones will love to spend time with yours.

What will the weather be like?

Should be very nice. Not too hot not too cold. Average highs are in the low 80's lows in the low 60's. Perfect!

Where should I park?

There is usually street parking available around the venue/reception site. If you can't find a close spot we can arrange for someone to come get you. Fingers crossed parking will be easy on a Thursday!

What should I wear?

Beach semi-formal to the ceremony and reception. Summer beach attire for the rest of your trip - it's going to be beautiful!

Is the wedding indoors or outdoors?

Our wedding ceremony is outdoors, but our reception will be indoors and outdoors with shade provided.

The ceremony will be full, afternoon sun. Please wear your sunscreen, and bring your sun hats and sunglasses.

What kind of shoes should/shouldn't I wear?

Calling all ladies! Do not wear stiletto heels. I repeat, do not wear stiletto heels. There are a bunch of grassy/dirt areas that you might have to walk in so wear chunky heels or sandals.

Whom should I call with questions?

Brides side: call/text Sarah, Karen, or Aunt Beth.
Grooms Side: call/text Matthew or Catherine

Registry

If you're thinking of giving a gift in any way, a monetary gift towards our honeymoon or family car would really make our day.

However, regardless of what you'd like to do know the most important gift you can bring to our big day is you!
