Fota Island Wildlife Park

Cork City - Less than 20 minutes away from the hotel is Cork city, where you can check out the English market, the best chipper/chippy in Ireland (Jackie Lennox’s) and Roy Keane’s ancestral home*! (*Don’t visit)

Golf - Conveniently Fota Island Resort is fitted with an 18-hole golf course.

Sólás na Mara - Seaweed Baths - Prior to your arrival at Murray’s pub you may want to unwind at Sólás (pronounced ‘Sull-awws”) na Mara which is down the road

Walks - Also on the Ring peninsula there is the Cunnigar (An Coinigéar), a sand spit traversing Dungarvan bay. 10 minutes out of Dungarvan town is Colligan Wood.

Waterford Greenway - what once was a railway track is now a 28 mile long greenway that runs from Abbeyside to Waterford city, which goes over viaduct bridges and through lit tunnels, and hosts views overlooking Clonea beach and the Comeragh mountains. Highly recommended. For those lucky enough to be able to cycle, there are several (two) bike hire shops in Abbeyside & Dungarvan.

Beaches - Clonea beach is 3 miles from Abbeyside/Dungarvan, and up the road from Cormac’s family home. Call in to see his beloved mother Margaret, who will offer/insist you have some lovely baked treats, and will give you her insight into how her greyhounds will perform at the race meet at Youghal dog track that week.

Hikes - Cruchán (a mountain), Coumshignaun (a mountain that has a lake in it at the top) and Mahon Falls (a waterfall trail) are all great hikes. If you are interested in doing one of these please contact Cormac, who can arrange a local guide and basic first aid training.

Golf - There are three golf courses in the area - Gold Coast Golf course, Dungarvan golf course and West Waterford golf course, as well as a pitch and putt course in Dungarvan town. For advice on the best course please speak to Best Man Dónal Henley, who will probably recommend the Gold Coast golf course as he receives a substantial referral fee.
