Story

Cristina and Rafael first met on a blind date on a cool January night at a restaurant overlooking Fort Lauderdale beach. The two were set up to meet for a couple of drinks. Three shared plates and a dessert later, they ended up closing the restaurant down. Anxious for more time together, they kicked off their shoes and walked alongside the ocean talking effortlessly and endlessly.

As most young couples do, Cristina and Rafael soon became inseparable just months into their newfound adoration. The two made things official in April of 2018. That feeling when falling in love, head in the clouds, heart sinking, butterflies in your stomach feeling. Quite literally in the clouds. From skydiving to the top of the Eiffel tower in Paris, they made lifelong memories together for the first time.

Three trips around the sun later, on January 13th, 2021, Rafael brought Cristina back to the restaurant where it all began. An acoustic guitar played their favorite love songs gently in the background as they celebrated this marked occasion. This night's weather proving not as cooperative as it had been three years ago on that first romantic walk, Rafael's plan to propose on the beach quickly moved to plan B. The living room of Cristina's place. As they began to drive home, friends and family covertly decorated the room in candlelight, over 300 long stem roses, and a neon sign asking the pink glowing question "Will you Marry me"? .🌹 As soon as the door opened, Cristina felt the butterflies in her heart. Rafael led her to the center of the room, got down on one knee, and asked for her hand.

Tidbits

How did you first meet?

On a blind date.

Who made the first move? How?

Rafael, from asking me to walk on the beach, to taking my hand during the walk, to asking me out on our second date even though I stood him up. He was persistent and very smooth.

Who's going to take out the trash?

Whoever can't compact it anymore, but Rafael likes to make it known when he takes it out to get the credit 😝

What was your most memorable date?

When Rafael took us skydiving in the Keys!

What's your favorite activity together?

Traveling. Hence the destination wedding!

Where are you going for your honeymoon?

Africa, Indonesia, and Japan to name a few on the wishlist 🌍

What's the best meal you have eaten together?

That is a challenge to answer, we're adventurous foodies. One that really stands out was at Fakhreldin In Amman, Jordan. Wine, hookah, candlelight, and probably the best Lebanese food we'll ever have.

What's the most memorable trip you have taken together?

That is easy, our first trip oversees to France. We visited Paris and drove down to Leon. After a couple of speeding tickets, lots of wine, cheese, and a minor run in with a bolder (which came out of nowhere) its a trip we will never forget. Oui Oui!

We’re on the same page about

Living in the moment, disconnecting from our phones, and focusing on each other.

The most spontaneous thing we’ve done

After a date night of delicious Peruvian food we drove out to the beach at the spot where we first met, cranked up the music, and dance to a few of our favorite love songs 🎶💕

A social cause we care about

The melting icecaps in the Atlantic and how it's affecting the walruses and the rest of the inhabitant animals. See on Our Planet - The Atlantic 💔 ...and UCF-GKCO

Q & A

For all our friends and family who have lots of questions, please check out our Q & A first!

When is the RSVP deadline?

To be announced.

Can I bring a date?

Please check your invite for your +1!

Are kids welcome?

As much as we love your little ones, we will not be including them in the ceremony or reception. However, we recognize that some of you will be traveling with your kids, so please know they are welcome at the other events! Should you need a babysitting service during the ceremony our wedding planner can arrange that. Please reach out if you have questions!

What will the weather be like?

Tulum is a lot like the place we call home. High of 85 low of 73 with 86% humidity seems about right. The only difference being here shoes are optional and the breeze is delightful. Please leave all jackets, coats, sweaters, and boots at home.

What should I wear?

See event details for proper dress code. Overall Tulum has a chill, boho vibe. Shorts, tank tops, sundresses, hats, and sandals are all good options during the day for when you're not in a bathing suit. For going out at night men are perfectly fine in shorts with a shirt and sandals. Ladies will feel comfortable going out at night in light dresses or shorts with a fun top and sandals. I would not recommend heels for going out since the main road is not paved. If you MUST wear heels, make it a wedge.

Is the wedding indoors or outdoors?

Our wedding ceremony and reception is outdoors. In fact all of Tulum is outdoors, the only place where you will be indoors is in your hotel room with air conditioning.

Is there transportation being provided between reception and hotels?

No, the ceremony and reception will be held at the main hotel offered. For the other hotel option, or if you are staying somewhere else, there will be Taxis available.

Where should I park?

If you are renting a car the hotel offers valet parking.

Will the ceremony and reception be socially distanced?

No, but everything in Tulum is outdoors

Are masks required? Will they be provided?

No, they are not required and will not be provided. Feel free to bring your own if you wish.

Whom should I call with questions?

We would love to hear from you. Give us a call anytime! For the big day you can call our wedding planner Xanath and Erika.

Covid Safety Information

We understand everyones concerns regarding their health and safety surrounding Covid-19. Although we will not be requiring social distancing or masks, we feel confident that CDC's statistics of less than 10% transmission outdoors will be in our favor. The area of Tulum is %100 outdoors. Restaurant's, spas, clothing shops, cafe's, everything is outdoors including our ceremony, reception, and all other held events.
