Story
We have been together for a very long time - over 8 years! We met when we were 20 years old and it's been incredible to see how much we have both grown and how our relationship has grown stronger with all the highs and lows we have gone through together in life.
We both attended the University of Washington (UW) in Seattle. We both got very involved in a student club called the Filipino American Student Association (FASA) - an organization that strives to foster unity and pride among their members and surrounding communities through educational, political, cultural and social advancement. While at UW, we both got very involved in FASA, to the point where we ran for leadership positions and became part of the "officer board" that led the organization for the school year. It was during that time when we started to get closer and realized how alike we were in personality, what we valued and our interests. We thought then it only made sense to try out this thing called dating :) and here we are now!
Tidbits
How did you first meet?
We met in 2014, as students at the University of Washington. We were both involved in the Filipino American Student Association (Daniel is Chinese, by the way).
Who made the first move? How?
Daniel did. We went to his apartment for dinner and made honey walnut shrimp together.
Who's going to take out the trash?
Whoever is the last to throw something away and notice it's full.
What was your most memorable date?
Our first date! We walked from UW to Gas Works Park to watch sunset. We had a little picnic and Daniel made and packed dinner for each of us in tupperware; breakfast for dinner which included spam, eggs and rice. It was memorable because Daniel only brought chopsticks to eat, since he wanted Melanie to practice using them more.
Where are you going for your honeymoon?
We are going to France!
What's the best meal you have eaten together?
We ate the best sushi of our lives in Kyoto, Japan.
What's the most memorable trip you have taken together?
Last summer, we traveled with some friends to Europe. From the peaks of the Swiss Alps to the villages of Cinque Terre, the views and vibes were impeccable.
A life goal of ours
Buying a house and traveling the world!
The most spontaneous thing we’ve done
Saw a deal for $300 tickets to Iceland - booked it and went for a 3 day weekend. It was freezing, but seeing the Northern Lights was worth it!
The dorkiest thing about us is
We know and recognize a lot of fonts on websites, designs, etc. and we like to talk about them when we notice it (e.g. "that menu uses comic sans!" "this store sign is using papyrus").
A social cause we care about
Supporting local businesses and restaurants owned by people of color.
What are your favorite activities to do together?
Eating, traveling, hanging out with our cats, and sending each other memes.
We are regulars at
Seattle Best Tea - we both think it definitely lives up to the name! We also frequent Happy Lemon and Dim Sum King.
How did you propose?
We went out on a double date with our good friends to a nice restaurant and we were all dressed up. After dinner, one of our friends had an idea to take some photos during sunset at Richmond Beach Saltwater Park- a local park that has great views of the Puget Sound and Olympic Mountains. When we headed over to the park, Daniel set up a little picnic area with a good view of the water and the sunset. He also had a bouquet of flowers here, as well as a memento box of some cards we wrote each other for birthdays and pictures of us throughout the years. Then he proposed! Afterwards, our family and friends popped out behind the bushes to congratulate us and we took pictures.

Your presence is enough of a present to us! But for those of you who are stubborn, we've put together a wish-list to help you out.
