Danielle & Gianluca

Sunday May 7, 2023

Napa Valley, California

Story

Danielle and Gianluca met in August of 2020. At this point, Danielle was very against the dating apps, but said to herself “okay JUST one more before I throw in the towel”. That “one more” happened to be her last first date ever with a guy named Gianluca Mazzarini. Danielle and Gianluca went to Valencia Street in the Mission District of San Francisco for their first date, where they shared their interests, hobbies, life goals, and a few drinks. By the end of the date, they both felt that this was something truly special. Danielle even called her mom on the Uber ride home to gush over the date and to tell her that Gianluca is Jewish (yes you read that right Gianluca Mazzarini is Jewish!). Over the course of the next year they spent quality time together meeting each other's friends, going rock climbing, biking, attending motorcycle races and events, traveling, and meeting the parents and family.

Fast-forward to December 2021, Gianluca helped to organize a joint Burnstein/ Mazzarini weekend trip to Napa for the holidays. Gianluca’s mom and dad (Patti and Massimo) flew up from LA and Danielle’s parents (Michelle and Marc) drove up from Lafayette. The plan for the first night was to go to dinner at Don Giovani- one of the Burnstein’s favorite restaurants in wine country. About 15 minutes before they were supposed to leave for dinner Gianluca asked Danielle to go “check out the beautiful lights” at the restaurant, Celadon, below the hotel. Danielle had a feeling that something was up at this point, but she loved seeing the lights at Celadon since she had been going there with her family for many years and it held many precious memories. Gianluca and Danielle walked downstairs to Celadon and low and behold it was pouring rain! Danielle could tell Gianluca was getting anxious about something and before she knew it Gianluca had gotten down on one knee and asked Danielle to marry him. Their parents then joined them- graciously holding umbrellas. It was difficult to tell what was rain and what were happy tears as everyone was a total and utter happy mess. After we took pictures, we packed ourselves into the car, drenched and ecstatic, and ate one of the best meals at Don Giovanni. The food was great but the fact that this was Danielle and Gianluca’s first meal as an engaged couple surrounded by their family was what made it the absolute best.

Travel Note

We encourage you to book your rooms right away! May is the peak of the travel season in Napa Valley and hotels will book up months in advance. Room rates will increase as the date approaches. We would love for guests to stay at Silverado Resort where the weekend events will take place and have also arranged discounted rates for our guests. These rates will only be available until our block sells out, and will not be available at all after March 7, 2023. Please be cautious if booking vacation rental homes in Napa Valley. Rentals less than 30 days are illegal in Napa Valley but many homeowners rent their properties out despite this. Should they be caught, you will loose your booking.

Plane

Flying In

If you're flying in, we recommend Oakland International Airport (OAK) or Sacramento International Airport (SMF) for the shortest drive and least amount of traffic. Another major airport option is San Francisco International Airport (SFO).

Q & A

Whom should I contact with questions?

If you have questions about the hotels or nanny services, please email our wedding planner: emily@emilycoyneevents.com

When should I book my hotel?

We encourage you to book your hotel room as soon as possible! Napa Valley is a busy travel destination in the spring and our hotel block will not be available after March 7, 2023. All events will be held at Silverado Resort and Spa.

What will the weather be like?

Weather in Napa this time of year is warm and generally comfortable during the day, with typical highs in the mid-70's. The evenings cool off to a brisk mid-50's. Dinner is under the stars so we strongly suggest bringing a wrap or light jacket for later in the evening.

What should I wear?

The wedding will be garden party formal. We would be delighted if our guests wear their favorite pastel and floral attire! Suits and ties in light colors are appropriate for men and fancy cocktail or long flowing dresses, skirts, or pant suits are appropriate for women. Our ceremony will be on lawn, the cocktail reception is a combination of lawn and patio, but all other surfaces are solid. Very little walking is required. We encourage brining a warmer layer for later in the evening.

Are children invited?

We wish that we could invite everyone but, unfortunately, our venue has a limited capacity! For that reason, we are only inviting adults, and our flower girls to our celebration. Napa Valley is a wonderful place to visit and if you do decide to turn your trip into a family vacation, there are a few local nanny companies that can provide sitter coverage while you attend the wedding festivities. Here are reputable companies that can send a nanny to your hotel:
