Story
How do any couples meet these days?
On an app, scrolling through their phone.
Bumble, a dating app, paved the way for Matthew and Emily to meet. They chatted via Bumble for a month or so before eventually locking down a date to meet in person.
The stories diverge after the first date. Matthew did not think the date was going to lead anywhere and was ready to let Emily go. However, Emily knew what she wanted and had her eyes on the prize. Persistent texting from Emily landed her a second date. Their connection was serious and led to strong feelings after that. At which point, they knew they were each other's forever person. There have been ups and downs, but it has all been worth it as their life has come together and they have made the decision to grow their family.
Tidbits
Who made the first move? How?
Emily
How did you propose?
Matthew began planning the proposal about 3 months before popping the question. Initially planned for March of 2020 (talk about dodging a bullet), the plan was changed to September 28th, 2019 due to some of Emily's closest friends being in town. On the morning of the 28th, while still in bed, Matthew told Emily he had a gift for her (she loves gifts). Matthew then proceeded to hand her a small box.
Emily sat up and began opening the box, and there it was... A layout of many small pictures of their most fun memories together throughout their relationship. Emily began to shed happy tears after reading a note Matthew placed in the box, and at all of the happy memories. She then turned around to give Matthew a hug, and that's when she saw Matthew's nervously shaking hand holding the ring of her dreams. Matthew asked Emily to marry him, and after going through the shock and catching her breath... Emily said "Yes!"
Who's going to take out the trash?
Matthew. Always Matthew.
What was your most memorable date?
Our second date when we stayed up until 5am playing games after a night out.
What's your favorite activity together?
Roller skating at Oaks Park.
Where are you going for your honeymoon?
We don't have one planned yet. Let's get our munchkin on solid foods first!
What's the best meal you have eaten together?
Emily would say it was the first time that Matt and Blake introduced her to Chick Fil A waffle fries and sauce. Matthew would say it is Emily's chicken enchiladas.
What's the most memorable trip you have taken together?
Bali with our friends Alex Mikolas, one of Emily's childhood friends, and Rodney Green, Alex's awesome boyfriend!
We’re on the same page about
Raising our kid(s) to be independent, strong and brave. Also, our dislike of bananas.
A life goal of ours
To take over the world.
The most spontaneous thing we’ve done
We? No no. The most spontaneous thing MATTHEW has ever done was buying Emily a puppy for her anniversary. It also ended up being one of the best decisions.
The dorkiest thing about us is
We love trashy TLC reality shows.
We are regulars at
Elephant Deli. Since being pregnant, Emily has wanted their Tomato Orange soup almost everyday.

Q & A
For all our friends and family who have lots of questions, please check out our Q & A first!
When is the RSVP deadline?
Please RSVP by June 15th, so we can have an accurate headcount. We will either harass you by text or email if we have not heard from you. Don't make us do that.
Can I bring a date?
Please check your invite for your +1!
Are kids welcome?
Kids are welcome as we understand that some of us have young ones (ourselves, soon to be included). However we encourage you to find a sitter and come out for a night out on the town. There is a strong possibility for an after party and we know that the kids are the only ones with a bedtime.
What will the weather be like?
The weather here can be funny. During the day, the weather in Portland should be beautiful, averaging 75-80 degrees Fahrenheit (24-26 Celsius for the Canadians), but can get chilly at night. Please bring some warm layers for the evening, we don't want anyone to freeze.
Where should I park?
Please park at Cedar Mill Elementary School. A shuttle will be there to take people to the house. If you feel like walking, it is only about a 6 minutes walk down the street.
Are the ceremony and reception locations wheelchair accessible?
The ceremony and reception are wheelchair accessible but please let us know in advance so we can be ensure to have it clearly marked.
Is the wedding indoors or outdoors?
Outdoors.
What should I wear?
The ceremony and reception will be outdoors. Matt and I want to see you in your best dressed shirt, your favorite dress, that sequin jumpsuit, or whatever outfit makes you feel best. Our photographer will be snapping pics of everyone and we know you love a good candid shot when you are looking your best! However we do not want anyone to be too warm. Please dress for warm weather and we will make sure that everyone is able to sit in the shade. We promise to keep the cold drinks flowing. In the evening it may shift and become cooler, so make sure to bring a warmer layer.
What kind of shoes should/shouldn't I wear?
Calling all ladies! We recommend that you do not wear stiletto heels as the ceremony is located in grass. We can't have any of you ruining nice shoes or breaking any ankles. That being said, we encourage you to go shoeless when and if it is more comfortable. The reception will be paved and so shoes can go back on.
Is it okay to take pictures with our phones and cameras during the wedding?
Yes! We would love for you to take photos and share them. Our hashtag is #allaboutME (ME is for Matt and Emily if you were confused)
