Story

Our love story began in 2010 our freshman year at Drexel University. We were dorm neighbors in Myers Hall, and we were in the Business Learning Community together. As part of the BLC, we took our core classes together and went on class trips. Since this was 11+ years ago, we have our own recollections of how our love story started...

Emily's version: The first time I saw Zach, we were in our Business 101 class. Our professor called on him to share about a business he had successfully started in high school. I remember thinking to myself how impressive that was and wanting to meet him. On our first class trip, I seized the opportunity to sit next to him on the bus and make the introduction. We became fast friends even spending time together outside of school skiing/snowboarding at Bear Creek. I knew it was inevitable that we would date, the question was just when. We maintained a close friendship for a year and a half before we decided to make it something more. We fell in love immediately, and have been inseparable ever since.

Zach's version: I remember noticing Emily when we first moved into Myers Hall and I wanted to meet her. She was always busy leaving to go to dance, class, or to hang out with her friends, so I never found a moment to introduce myself. The first time we got to officially meet and started getting to know each other was when she sat next to me on the bus to visit Comcast. I quickly came to know how much she enjoyed sushi so whenever I wanted to spend more time with her I would invite her on a sushi date. Our relationship grew as we got to know each other and eventually we started spending all our time together.

Tidbits

Who made the first move? How?

Emily made the first move!

I found an opportunity to introduce myself on a class trip. I was in line for the bus behind Zach and a mutual friend. I started talking to our friend to distract him and wedged my way in front of him. When we boarded the bus I grabbed the open seat next to Zach. :)

What's your favorite activity together?

We love being out on the water together! We boat frequently and enjoy visiting the neighboring islands. Masonboro Island is our favorite, and also happens to be the location of our engagement. We are always happy to go on a long walk to find shells, and in the summer we love water skiing, fishing, scuba diving and watching the wildlife.

What was your most memorable date?

We spent our first Valentine's day celebrating with takeout and champagne at Zach's college pad on Spruce St. He insisted we order kabobs from a local place, that ended up making me ill. I spent the evening running to the bathroom and trying to act like nothing was wrong, but he ran out of toilet paper so I had to confess!

Where are you going for your honeymoon?

We're heading over to the West End after the wedding celebrations to stay at The Caves. It is a beautiful little boutique hotel built into the volcanic cliffside.

What's the best meal you have eaten together?

It's a toss up...we treated ourselves to a ten-course meal in Montreal that was so unique and fabulous. Although we also enjoyed a spread of massive Caribbean lobsters on the tiny island of Mayreau in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The locals caught them, cut them in half and cooked them over the largest homemade grill we've ever seen. It was an experience!

We’re on the same page about

What's important to us, our goals in life, our lifestyle, our family values, etc. Basically everything. There's not much we disagree on.

What's the most memorable trip you have taken together?

We chartered a 62 ft catamaran in the West Indies that took us to 10 islands spanning 3 different countries in 8 days. We traveled with a captain and chef from France, and 4 couples from France, Germany and Italy. It was a once in a lifetime experience and really opened our eyes to different cultures and ways of living.

A life goal of ours

To become advanced certified divers, so we can do a 100+ ft dive off the coast of NC at the shelves to find megalodon teeth.

The most spontaneous thing we’ve done

We put an offer in/bought our current house a few hours after going to the open house "for fun".

The dorkiest thing about us is

We listen to the Pirates of the Caribbean soundtrack when we're boating home from a local island at night.

We are regulars at

The Fat Pelican. It's the #1 dive bar in NC, top #25 in the US and it's located a mile from our house.

We take pride in

The family and traditions we've started, our home, our careers, and our ventures outside of our careers.

Daily high temperatures in Negril, Jamaica during April are around 83°F, rarely falling below 80°F or exceeding 86°F. Daily low temperatures are around 76°F, rarely falling below 73°F or exceeding 79°F. April is considered the dry season, so rainfall is rare.

What should I wear?

Please see our Schedule for the dress code of our events. For evening gourmet dining during your stay, cocktail attire is required in several of the restaurants. Check the ‘dining’ section of the resort website for dining dress codes.

Is the wedding indoors or outdoors?

Our wedding ceremony and reception is outdoors on the beach.

What kind of shoes should/shouldn't I wear?

Feel free to wear sandals or forego shoes altogether for both the ceremony and reception since they are taking place in the sand. Please keep in mind that photos will likely be taken on the cement walkways around the property before/immediately after the ceremony. We recommend bringing a nice pair of shoes for group photos.

Is it okay to take pictures with our phones and cameras during the wedding?

We have hired a professional photographer and videographer to capture our day. We ask that you do not take photos during our ceremony so they can capture this special moment for us. We will make sure copies of photos are distributed after!

What should I make sure to pack?

Your passport (the general rule is expiration must not be within 6 months of travel, so be sure to check the expiration date in advance!), sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, bug spray, a phone charger, a water proof phone case, etc. Please also remember to take your negative COVID test and travel authorization with you to the airport. Both will be required to board your flight!
