About us!

How did you first meet?

We're basically a rom-com trope. We met and dated briefly in high school, then went our separate ways. But were were lucky and remained friends over the years.

Now, after reconnecting in 2018, we are engaged and living together downtown with our two cats. We have changed jobs, moved twice, adopted a pet, travelled around, and spend as much time together as possible. We are each other's best friend and partner. We do everything together, and are learning to navigate this world together one day at a time, while loving every second of it.

On our annual Christmas Eve Eve date this year, Daniel went all out. We got cocktails where we had our first date, got dinner at an incredible restaurant, and then spent the night at a beautiful boutique hotel downtown, The Quirk. Little did I know, Daniel had reserved the only room with access to the hotel's rooftop bar (which had been closed for some time due to Covid-19). He had asked the hotel staff to turn on some string lights, and proposed to me, alone up on the roof, with sweeping views of the city of Richmond surrounding us. It was a beautifully planned, and preciously private moment we will both cherish for all our lives. I said yes without hesitation.

What was your most memorable date?

Daniel says it was our first, now-annual Christmas Eve Eve date. We spent the whole day celebrating, starting with brunch, then seeing the Nutcracker at the Richmond Ballet, followed by dinner and a night in the Jefferson Hotel downtown.

I say it was our two year anniversary, when we split a very large brunch cocktail, and decided to take a city bus to go shopping. We ended up on the complete wrong side of the city because someone (Daniel) misread the bus route, but we still laugh and argue about who (it was Daniel).

What's your favorite activity together?

Anything that's a reason to get our friends and family together! Whether it's trivia, hanging out by the pool, brunch, or game night, we love being surrounded by our favorite people. But when we're not out being social butterflies/ the parents of the friend group, we're doing our other favorite thing: recharging our social batteries with a quiet night at home, reading with our cats.

Where are you going for your honeymoon?

We're going wherever we can afford, which hopefully includes lots of beautiful beaches and umbrella drinks. Fingers crossed for Antigua!

What's the best meal you have eaten together?

Brunch at Las Vistas Cafe in Fajardo, Puerto Rico. Owned and operated by the incomparable Gladys, this little cafe turned around our entire trip to Puerto Rico. It was the perfect wholesome meal, on this hilltop with sweeping views of the ocean, and just thinking about it makes us smile.

What's the most memorable trip you have taken together?

We went to Puerto Rico in 2019 and it was amazing. The most memorable part was hands down the swim in the bioluminescent bay. It was pitch-dark outside, but the water glowed as we moved through it, and the experience was as close to magic as we've ever come.

When & Where

The most precious gift we could ask for is your joyful presence at our wedding. But, we are not above gifts. For those of you who want to and are able, we would greatly appreciate a contribution to our Honeymoon Fund so that we can have our dream vacation. If that doesn't interest you, or you just have a couple extra bucks, we have included the link to a local charity that is incredibly special to us.

Travel and Things To Do

Plane

Getting In

We recommend flying Richmond International Airport (RIC).

Car

Getting Downtown

There a lots of ways to get in downtown! There are several car rental options, and Lyft and Uber are relatively inexpensive. If you are feeling more adventurous, try one of the many electric scooters parked around downtown. But, if you do, proceed with caution; Richmond drivers are unreliable.

Note

Winter is confusing in Richmond.

It could be 75 degrees. It could also snow. Bring an umbrella, and pack layers. TIP: The venue has an outdoor grounds space that you can explore during cocktail hour. No judgement if you bring a pair of rain boots to wear for this portion of the day.

Q & A

For all our friends and family who have lots of questions, please check out our Q & A first!

When is the RSVP deadline?

Please RSVP by December 15th.

Can I bring a date?

Please check your invite for your assigned guest count.

Are kids welcome?

Children are welcome at all events; the kids always get the party started! During the ceremony, there will be completely optional on-site childcare, with a licensed babysitter supervising your little ones until you come to pick them up for the cocktail hour/reception.

What will the weather be like?

Welcome to Richmond, where the forecast is made up and the predictions don't matter. Pack layers, and bring an umbrella. Your guess is as good as ours.

Where should I park?

There is plenty of parking on site. However, if you plan to stay at the hotel block provided, you can skip all that and just ride the complementary shuttle!

Are the ceremony and reception locations wheelchair accessible?

As the site is a historical landmark, some areas are inaccessible by wheelchair. However, both the ceremony and reception facilities are accessible by wheelchair.

What should I wear?

Like a regular wedding, but with warmer clothes.

Is the wedding indoors or outdoors?

Our ceremony and reception are both indoors. During cocktail hour, you will be free to move about the grounds, both indoor and outdoor. There will be an outdoor bar and passed hors d'oeuvres, in addition to fire pits and space heaters to keep you warm. You will also be able to enter the reception tent and Mansion.

What kind of shoes should/shouldn't I wear?

Calling all ladies! Do not wear stiletto heels. I repeat, do not wear stiletto heels. There are a bunch of grassy/dirt areas that you might have to walk in so wear chunky heels or sandals. Have no shame about wearing warm boots and socks.

Is it okay to take pictures with our phones and cameras during the wedding?

No cellphones during the ceremony, PLEASE. We have hired two fantastic photographers, and we will gladly share all the pictures they take with you when we get them. However, feel free to use them during cocktail hour and the reception! Just please be mindful of Taylor & Billy.

Whom should I call with questions?

Please call Leah, our wedding planner, with question at 804-733-7773 ext 2. Or, contact our Matron Of Honor, Natalie Allen.
