Plane

Flying

We recommend flying into London Heathrow or London Gatwick International airports.

There are 3 easy ways to reach Dorset:

1) Driving - Approximately 2.5 hours drive to Dorchester

2) National Express Bus - you will need to change coaches, its very affordable, but slow

3) The train leaving from Waterloo station directly to Dorchester or Weymouth .
To reach Waterloo station from Heathrow:
- The quickest route to Waterloo is via the Heathrow Express to Paddington station, transfer to the Bakerloo underground line and alight at Waterloo station.
- The slower, but more quintessentially British way is via the Victoria underground line to Piccadilly and transfer to the Bakerloo Line and alight at Waterloo station.

Train

By Train

Both Weymouth, Upwey and Dorchester South stations are on the main train line from London Waterloo to Weymouth. The Trip from London to Weymouth takes approximately two and a half hours.

Car

Getting around in Dorset

Getting around Weymouth and Dorchester via taxi or Bus is possible. Car hire would be the best option as many places you may wish to visit are difficult to access via bus.
Driving in the UK is easier than Australia, however we have lots of corners and those not from Adelaide - roundabouts (lots of roundabouts & some with lights as well!) Car hire is easy and lots available, the roads are good and the distances small compared to Australia! We would recommend Eurpocar via holidayauto, they often have a free second driver offer. The easiest collection point when flying into Heathrow is at the Airport - You don't have to drive in London and are straight on the motorway heading to Dorset. Those taking the train can collect the car from Bournemouth station. It is then a one hour drive to Dorchester.

Note

August is the end of the high season in Dorset. Please make your arrangements as soon as possible for the best rates and availability.

Welcome to Dorset! Not only is it where Lee grew up, it is also the home to many other famous people and places. Sir Thomas Hardy the sailor, Thomas Hardy (the author), the British Olympics sailing and some of the most beautiful country side and coast line in the UK. Dorset is a county in southwest England. It’s known for the Jurassic Coast, a long stretch on the English Channel where the cliffs contain many fossils, and rock formations show millions of years of geological history. Two prominent natural landmarks are Durdle Door, an ancient stone arch, and the layered cliffs at nearby Lulworth Cove. The towns of Poole, Weymouth and Swanage are popular for their sandy beaches.

We can't wait for you to share our special day, but also for you to experience this beautiful and special part of the world. Especially those of you that have travelled so far!

Bullet Point Empty

Portland Bill - is a narrow promontory (or bill) at the southern end of the Isle of Portland, and the southernmost point of Dorset, England. One of Portland's most popular destinations is Portland Bill Lighthouse. Portland's coast has been notorious for the number of shipwrecked vessels over the centuries. The dangerous coastline features shallow reefs and the Shambles sandbank, made more hazardous due to the strong Portland tidal race. The Bill is an important way-point for coastal traffic, and three lighthouses have been built to protect shipping. The original two worked as a pair from 1716, and they were replaced in 1906 by the current one.
