Story

We met in the modern way- the internet, arranging to meet the day that Emma turned in her dissertation. The first conversation continued long after dinner and before the night was over Emma broke the news that she was moving to North Carolina in a couple weeks. That didn't stop us from spending the next few weeks inseparable from one another. The first few months of dating long distance didn't feel like long because we were always on the phone with one another often falling asleep talking. We kept a book of our love that we'd exchange whenever we'd travel, but fortunately COVID meant that Dan was in North Carolina permanently. We've remained inseparable ever since.

Q & A

For all our friends and family who have lots of questions, please check out our Q & A first!

Are kids welcome?

As much as we love your little ones, we will not be including them in the ceremony or reception. However, we recognize that some of you will be traveling with your kids, so please know they are welcome at the Saturday cocktail reception and brunch! Please reach out if you have questions!

What will the weather be like?

It's generally perfect that time of year but who knows these days!

Where should I park?

There is plenty of free parking (no meters on Sundays and the public lot on McDowell is free) and low cost parking downtown.

What should I wear?

Cocktail attire

Is the wedding indoors or outdoors?

Indoors with an outdoor patio

Is it okay to take pictures with our phones and cameras during the wedding?

We'll have some great professional photos.

Will the ceremony and reception be socially distanced?

This is a 100% vaccinated ceremony so get your vaccine if you haven't already. Most of the wedding will be indoors but with a lot a ventilation and an outdoor area available.

I am coming from out of town. Where should I stay?

There are many hotels within walking distance (the Sheraton, Residence Inn, and Marriott are all very close).

What if I have a dietary restriction?

Let us know in the RSVPs.

Will last names be changing after the wedding?

Nope.

Is there a gifts registry?

Yes! See the registry information on this site!

Will there be dancing?

Yes.

Will there be any activities happening that I need to know about?

We will be having a contest related to the Oscars which are happening that night. So watch movies, all of them.

Didn't you already get married?

Yes, we legally got married on September 30, 2022 because we couldn't wait any longer and North Carolina law makes it tricky to get married, but to us March is our real wedding. Emma cried, Dan was adorable. It was the best day, despite the hurricane... until March 2023 that is.

Will there be assigned seating?

No, make some friends and sit with them. If you happen to find one of the many lawyers or policy nerds invited to the wedding, here is a sample conversation starter: "Why is it tricky to get married in North Carolina? Can you google it for me?"

I want to eat Southern food. Where do you recommend?

If you want BBQ we recommend Longleaf Swine or Sam Jones. If you are looking for chicken and waffles Beasley's is a great choice. Raleigh is a croissant capital so make sure to enjoy one. You'll try some samples at our brunch. 3-2-1 Coffee is a great local spot that benefits people with intellectual disabilities. Wye Hill has great views. Burial Beer is some of the best beer in America. Standard is a lovely spot to sit outside and enjoy good vibes. Hummingbird is great for a fancy brunch, Benchwarmers has great Montreal style bagels, and Neuse River Brewery has a solid brunch. The NC State Creamery (Howling Cow) has the best ice cream around. Trophy is another great brewery and one location has great pizza/salads/other food.

What should I do on Sunday before the wedding?

It's time-change day so you have less time to kill than a regular day. We recommend going on a walk along the Raleigh Greenways (100 miles of walking and biking paths). The Pullen Park, marble museum, natural history, or Yates Mill is fun for children. The NC Art Museum and Sculpture Garden is great for all ages. The State Farmers Market is something to behold. The Old Capitol building will probably take you 10 minutes but is fun. You could always go to Durham or Chapel Hill but they aren't as fun as Raleigh. I guess they have things.
