Q & A

The invitation said "wedding reception" - what about the ceremony?

We have opted to hold a private wedding ceremony earlier in the day on Saturday. The event on Saturday is just the party.

What is "The Wharf?"

The Wharf is a mixed-use development on the Southwest Waterfront in Washington, DC. It contains DC's historic Maine Avenue Fish Market, hotels, residential buildings, restaurants, shops, parks, piers, docks and marinas, and live music venues. Our venue is a three-story restaurant located in the northwest section at the end of The Wharf.

When is the RSVP deadline?

Please RSVP by October 26th, thanks!

What time should I arrive?

We kindly ask that you do not arrive any earlier than 5pm for the reception. If you do happen to arrive in the area earlier, The Wharf has lots to do and see, and there are plenty of areas to walk around and hang out.

Is there transportation being provided between reception and hotels?

We are not having any official hotels or hotels with room blocks, so transportation won't be provided. Public transportation is readily available in this area, as well as Uber/Lyft.

Is the reception indoors or outdoors?

Indoors. The main space has accordion walls and ceilings, which we will open if the weather is nice. There is also an outdoor balcony with fire pits, even if the weather is colder and the walls/ceilings are closed.

Where should I park?

For Saturday night (the reception), the most convenient parking location is the Wharf Parking Garage #1; however, parking at The Wharf is expensive and limited. We will have parking validation tickets available for the L'Enfant Plaza Garage (look for The Spy Museum parking/Ace Parking) which is an ~8 minute walk (0.3 mile). If you would like a validation ticket, you must notify us or select that you need one when you RSVP. When you arrive, park normally in this garage and then we will provide the validation ticket to you during the reception. The validation ticket is ONLY valid until midnight. ***Please note that there are stairs on the walk between this garage and the venue, so this parking garage is not a good option if stairs will be problematic for you.

For Sunday morning (brunch), plentiful free street parking is available. We will email you specific instructions and directions closer to the date, if you have submitted your RSVP as attending the brunch.

What should I wear?

The reception is cocktail attire. All other events are casual.

How will food and drinks be served?

There will be passed hors d'oeuvres, a family-style three-course dinner, and an open bar.

What if I have a dietary restriction?

When you RSVP, you will be able to indicate any restrictions.

Will there be dancing?

There will not be a dance floor, but there will be live jazz.

Is the reception location wheelchair accessible?

Yes, there is an elevator.

Is there a gifts registry?

Rather than a gifts registry, we chose a few charities to ask for donations instead. Please see the registry page for more information.

Will last names be changing after the wedding?

Nope! Emma Gisiger and Karl Stallknecht are keeping their lovely names. 🤓

Whom should I contact with questions?

You can contact Emma or Karl with your questions!

Flying In

We recommend flying in to Reagan National Airport (aka National or DCA) since it is the closest; however, Dulles International Airport (IAD) and Baltimore Washington International Airport (BWI) are also options.

National Airport is a very short metro ride to The Wharf neighborhood in DC (get on the blue or yellow lines and get off at L’Enfant Plaza Metro Station, and walk ~8 minutes).

Dulles Airport (as of today) does not have any convenient public transit options available to get into DC, so if you fly into Dulles, your best option is Uber/Lyft which is approximately a 30 mile/45 minute drive to the venue. It is possible that metro (silver line - under construction) will be open and operating by our wedding date, in which case you can take the silver line from Dulles to L’Enfant Plaza Metro Station.

BWI Airport has public transit available, but it involves a few extra steps. A shuttle from the airport to the Amtrak or MARC train station is available, and then from there you can take those trains to the New Carrollton Metro Station, and take the orange line to L’Enfant Plaza Metro Station. It involves multiple transfers to do this entire trip, but it is possible.

Train

Washington Union Station

If you're coming from a location near Amtrak's Northeast Regional corridor, Amtrak is a great option. Once you arrive at Union Station, we recommend that you Uber/Lyft (2 miles/10 minutes) to the venue. Metro is possible, but much less convenient between the two locations.

Hotel Options

There are a ton of hotel options at The Wharf or very close by. If you are looking for something less expensive and you're flying in, we recommend that you look for hotel options in Virginia (Crystal City, Rosslyn, or Clarendon) which are all easily accessible to the venue by metro. If you are driving, there are many more hotel options available; due to parking costs, you may want to look at locations in Virginia (Fairfax or Springfield as examples) where there will be free hotel parking. We HIGHLY advise against staying anywhere south of Springfield due to the severe traffic that can occur on Interstate 95 on Saturdays.

Registry

Your presence is enough of a present to us! But for those of you who are stubborn, we'd love for you to donate to one of the charities below.
