Story
We met in the totally old-fashioned, traditional way: a dating app. Hinge, to be specific. For our first date, Evan asked Morgan to get ice cream at Handel's on a Thursday night. We both thought it would be a quick date—an hour at most. But once the masks came off (we ate outside of course!) we were instantly comfortable with each other and the conversation flowed. By the time we looked at our clocks, two full hours had passed.
Morgan had been on a string of first dates that were mediocre at best, but felt something was different here. That Sunday, she had dinner with two friends and spilled the details. With some help from her hype squad, she asked Evan out for a second date that night. The plan (which Evan quickly took over) was to ride the ski lift and hike Stewart Falls at Sundance. We thought it might last a couple hours, but by the time we got back to our respective cars, we realized over six hours had passed. As Evan drove down the canyon after the date, he realized that he already wanted to see her again. He promptly called her (before she even made it back to Provo) and asked her to dinner the next night.
We've been nearly inseparable since.
Tidbits
What was your most memorable date?
EVAN: Morgan planned a date night during the height of COVID. She made custom movie tickets that had a QR code on the bottom that led to a website with movie selections. She bought all of our favorite snacks, picked up popcorn at the movie theater, and got sodas. It ruled!
MORGAN: We went to the zoo back in October, in the early days of our relationship. It was a gorgeous, crisp fall day and we held hands as we fawned over the elephants' tricks and the new baby monkeys. After we made our rounds with the animals, we fumbled for something else to do (neither wanting to openly admit that we just wanted to keep spending time together) and ended up at Gilgal Gardens. We sat and talked in front of the Joseph Smith sphinx for another hour or so. Talking still seems to be what we do best.
We’re on the same page about
Carly Rae Jepsen's Emotion album is one of the best pop albums of all time. No skips.
What's your favorite activity together?
EVAN: Trying new restaurants and yelling out mid 2000s rock in the car
MORGAN: Movies! at the theater!
Where are you going for your honeymoon?
Palm Springs! We look forward to taking a break from work, reading books by the pool, and sleeping in till noon.
What's the best meal you have eaten together?
About a month into us going on dates, Evan asked Morgan to come to Austin with him. The occasion? BBQ. It was a vacation planned with the sole purpose of eating good food. We rented a mustang, saw The Shining at a drive-in theater (Evan had to close his eyes a lot), and ate the best brisket known to man.
The main event (and winning meal) was Franklin BBQ, which is considered one of the best Central Texas BBQ joints on the planet. Moist, juicy brisket smoked for 12+ hours. Unreal stuff. Hmm. Honestly drooling just thinking about it.
Who's going to take out the trash?
EVAN: Look man this ain't 1945—we don't ascribe gender identities to chores. Whoever is closest.
MORGAN: Evan will :)
A life goal of ours
Live abroad! Evan really wants to go back to New Zealand and Morgan wants to return to London.
The most spontaneous thing we’ve done
Get married within a year of meeting each other lol.
