How He Proposed
In late June 2017, Preet and I took a 10 day trip to France. We had visited Barcelona a month earlier, and since I had done all of the planning for the Barcelona trip, he agreed to do the planning for France. Things started a little rocky to say the least; our flight to Paris was initially cancelled hours before takeoff! We were pretty upset, but eventually we made it to Paris!
Our first day in Paris was extremely hot and in true Paris fashion, there was little air conditioning. Preet made a reservation at an amazing restaurant with limited availability for our first night. I decided to wear a dress that got tighter and tighter as I kept eating. I started feeling sick and hot (I couldn't breathe!). At one point, I had to step outside and get some fresh air. It wasn't turning out to be such a romantic night. (Later I found out he was supposed to propose this night).
I'd never been to Paris before, so the next day we walked around the city and took in the sights. I got to see the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe. Later that evening we went to another amazing restaurant called Le Ombre. Having no expectations, Preet took me to this gorgeous rooftop restaurant positioned directly in front of the Eiffel Tower. When we walked in and he gave his name, the hostess gave me a big smile. I thought to myself "wow Parisians are such nice people." He somehow managed to snag the table by the window with no one obstructing our view.
We arrived at sunset and the view was breathtaking. The entire experience of being in Paris and dining at sunset was unreal. When the sun finally set and the sky became dark, the Eiffel Tower lit up every hour on the hour for 5 minutes. It was magical. At 11 pm, I had Preet come out and take a picture of me (for the gram obviously) while the tower was sparkling.
We sat back down to eat dessert and finish up our delicious wine. It was probably around 11:55 or just before midnight and Preet asked me to take a picture of him when the tower sparkled again. This time, however he wanted to get as close as possible. Earlier in the evening, we had seen some people walk across a dark outdoor area on an adjacent rooftop. The view of the Eiffel Tower from that point was even more vivid.
We walked over to this area and I was concentrating very hard on taking an excellent picture of him. It was just the two of us. I showed him the picture after I took it and he said, "Oh take one more." I take the picture again and then start staring at my phone so intent on taking this amazing picture. Finally out of nowhere, Preet clears his throat and I see him down on one knee asking me "Will you be Mrs. Patel?" He shined the ring right into my face and I immediately started shedding tears. I was so surprised! He did such a good job <3
