Story
We met through an absolutely wild and unforgettable chain of events. Hilary had just finished training to be a flight attendant with American Airlines and decided to spend a few days exploring the UK for the first time. She stayed with a friend from college, explored Oxford, and unfortunately had her wallet stolen; all within 72 hours! Credit cards, passport, license and all cash having been taken, her friend from Oxford suggested she make her way back to London and spend time with a group of friends she was meeting up with that evening to take Hilary’s mind off the awful turn of events. During these same 72 hours, Jamie had been planning on meeting with that same college friend of Hilary’s in London, where he had recently moved after graduating from university. He had just taken a job with Bloomberg and had been planning to meet with a group of friends to catch up.
We first saw each other in the National Portrait Gallery.
As the day progressed, the group wandered around London for a few hours and eventually ended up at the British institution that is a Wetherspoons pub. By this point, everyone in the group was somewhat aware of Jamie’s interest in Hilary. They finalized their suspicions that Jamie wanted to see Hilary again while she had stepped away from the table and when she returned asking if anyone was free the next day to explore London, were conveniently “busy.”
The next day, we met at Waterloo station and Jamie proceeded to give his best impression of a tour guide, for someone who had only lived there for 6 months. They spent time wandering through Hyde Park, sipping hot chocolate and lounging in the sun, all the while chatting and laughing and making sure the other didn’t need to leave with the occasional “three hour check in.” Their love of musicals and cocktails turned the day into an evening filled with more adventure and before they knew it, they had spent nearly a full 24 hours together.
Miraculously, Hilary returned to Chicago where she was based and Jamie returned to his life in London. They spoke every day and as often as the time difference would allow and soon began to make plans to see each other again, more and more often. They couldn’t quite shake what that day together had meant to one another and now, even all these years later, neither of them would have had it any other way.

Q & A
For all our friends and family who have lots of questions, please check out our Q & A first!
Are kids welcome?
As much as we love your little ones, we will not be including children under the age of 13 in the ceremony or reception. We plan to have a reception in both Minnesota and in Wales that your children are more than welcome to attend! Contact Hilary and Jamie for more details.
Can I bring a date?
Please check your invite! This website will also assist you in adding your +1, if they have been invited to attend.
What will the weather be like?
Welcome to New York City, all of you out-of-towners! The weather here can be funny. In April, it can be 70 Fahrenheit/21 Celsius + sunny with not a cloud in the sky, but it can also snow! Please be mindful about the swings in weather when packing. Layers will be your best friend!
Where should I park?
There is street parking, for those of you who plan to drive. There are also numerous hourly/daily garages in Long Island City!
Are the ceremony and reception locations wheelchair accessible?
The main space and courtyard are both at street level! A majority of the courtyard is cobblestone.
What should I wear?
Something comfortable and semi-formal! A jacket or cover-up might also be necessary if the weather takes a turn for the chilly, so be prepared!
Is the wedding indoors or outdoors?
A little bit of both! The venue has both a courtyard and indoor spaces to enjoy!
What kind of shoes should/shouldn't I wear?
Both of us would recommend shoes on the flatter side! The courtyard is entirely cobblestone and indoors is paved. Plus, the neighborhood is incredibly walkable and we would love for you to take it all in, pre and post wedding!
Is it okay to take pictures with our phones and cameras during the wedding?
Yes! We would love for you to take photos and share them on our app Joy.
Whom should I call with questions?
Please call/text either Jamie (612-346-3055) or Hilary (612-481-6473) with any major questions!
Travel
Getting In
We recommend flying into LaGuardia (LGA) or John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK). Newark (EWR) is also possible but much farther away from the venue.
Arriving at LaGuardia?
From LaGuardia airport you can take the Q70 bus to Jackson Heights/Roosevelt subway station. From here you can take the E, M, R or 7 trains in the downtown Manhattan direction to reach either Long Island City or Manhattan.
LaGuardia also has taxi, Uber and Lyft stands to take take you directly from the airport to any location.
Arriving at John F. Kennedy?
From John F. Kennedy airport you can take the AirTrain to Sutphin Blvd - JFK Airport subway station. From this station, the E train will take you to Long Island City or into Manhattan. Along the E there are many locations you can change to different trains to explore different parts of Long Island City.
John F. Kennedy also has taxi, Uber and Lyft stands to take take you directly from the airport to any location.
Arriving at Newark?
From Newark airport, the most reliable way to get into Manhattan or Long Island City is by using a taxi/Uber/Lyft. Public transportation is possible, but it is a nightmare and often very time consuming. This is also the farthest airport from the venue and could be quite costly to get from!
Booking Assistant - Find Hotels Near Our Venue
Ravel Hotel, Trademark Collection by Wyndham, Queens Plaza South, Long Island City, NY, USA
Only a three minute walk to our venue! A good hotel for young couples and those who want a high-energy, exciting NYC stay!
Wyndham Garden Long Island City, 9th Street, Queens, NY, USA
Located on Vernon Blvd, which is a great area for “foodies” to explore! A six minute walk from the venue, this hotel is more family oriented and has lots of street parking available nearby.
Hyatt Place Long Island City / New York City, 43rd Avenue, Queens, NY, USA
The longest walk out of the three suggested hotels at 11 minutes, but the closest hotel to train lines in and out of Manhattan! This is a busier area of Long Island City, but if you plan on making your stay long and full of trips into the city, this hotel is for you!
