Tidbits
How did you first meet?
Traveling in South America on a group tour through G Adventures!
Who made the first move? How?
Jackie, obviously.
After a few days of flirting we were out one night in Cusco at a bar, Jackie wasn't certain if he was single so she asked him point blank "are you seeing anyone back home?", after he gave her a firm "no" she pull him further away off the dance floor and went for it. Jackie proceeded to ask Alex out for a proper first date a few days later!
What was your most memorable date?
3 day hike on the Lares Trek to Machu Picchu.
Jackie was also recovering from a bacterial infection - someone tackled her out of the boat when they were white water rafting in an attempt to...flirt? She swallowed a bunch of dirty river water and proceeded to be ill for the whole camping trip. Turns out that particular male mating act worked! Jackie was impressed by Alex's kindness and ability to care for others, while Alex admired Jackie's determination, competitive drive and overall stubbornness to be one of the first to the top despite being ill.
What's your favorite activity together?
Traveling, trying new cuisines & music festivals! We also love to ski (Alex) & snowboard (Jackie). Our casual day to day activities always involve local breweries, hanging out with friends, playing with our rescued cats, sunset viewings, beach walks, watching stand up & good TV shows. Jackie is getting Alex into more creative/craft activities and Alex is slowly turning Jackie into a car enthusiast.
Where are you going for your honeymoon?
A minimoon in San Sebastian & Mallorca will happen shortly after the wedding. However, we are hoping to treat ourselves to a longer trip throughout Southeast Asia in 2023. Overall we want a combination of culture, incredible food, fun activities, diverse landscapes, and wildlife!
What's the best meal you have eaten together?
This is a tough one since Alex is so good at picking places to eat! Not counting any of his incredible meals at home, it's probably a tie between the below:
- Ron's Gastropub in Amsterdam (Jackie's first Michelin star experience)
- This place in Ibiza where one of the tapas came on a dish the shape of a balloon animal - waiting for Alex to find the name again
- $3.50 scallop and sea urchin tostadas at a street cart in Ensenada, Mexico
- This place in Cuba where each level was serving a different type of cuisine - again need the name from Alex but we FEASTED and I remember there was a beautiful performance of some sort where they told their story moving through the tables across the restaurant.
- a very small Japanese restaurant in Leamington Spa, there couldn't have been more than 8 seats and you ate whatever they had prepared for the evening no menu, no substitutions. We sat right next to the Chef and learned about his life and the time he spent in Japan.
What's the most memorable trip you have taken together?
While long-distance had it's downsides, the best part was taking advantage of meeting up somewhere fun. Havana, driving up PCH, Amsterdam, Ibiza, and of course all of Peru were the most memorable probably because they included so many new experiences for us both.
We’re on the same page about
Pro-choice, Burmese cats (adopt don’t shop), food (except goat cheese), traveling, music (except country & rap), loving the mountains, quality friends, the importance of family, treating our planet right & just not being a prick to people.
Also that organized religion is the demise of our society and car rides are far more enjoyable if Alex is the one driving.
A life goal of ours
Grow in our careers and always support one another.
To lead healthy and active lives accompanied by delicious cuisines, chocolate & craft beer.
To continue to travel even when we have kids, and start them on skis (or a snowboard!) as early as possible.
Adopt a dog...(fingers crossed)
Jackie would love to own enough land where she could start an animal sanctuary and rescue all the animals she wants. Alex would like that land to build his own house and garage for his expansive car & bike collection.

We'll be situated in our favourite brewery in Laguna Beach, and we'd love for you to stop by, grab your welcome bag, and have a drink with us! The brewery has amazing beer & some great, lighter, food options. It's located in Laguna Canyon where there is a winery, an Italian restaurant, and a Vietnamese restaurant right next door. It's also the final weekend of an arts festival called 'Sawdust' which is a 2 minute walk from the brewery.
We recommend taking the trolley and checking it all out!

Travel
Airport Info
We recommend flying into San Diego International Airport (SAN) or Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) for our international travelers! LAX is 66 miles north and SAN is 62 miles south of the venue.
For our domestic travelers John Wayne Airport (SNA) located in Orange County is the closest airport. We live just 10 minutes from this airport now, and it's only 27 miles from the venue! Southwest, Delta, American, Spirit, & United all fly to this airport.
Getting to Orange County
Depending on how long you are coming and what else you want to see while you're in California there are a few options to get you to Orange County! You are already making the trip out to CA so you might as well enjoy as much of it as you can :)
First thing to remember is this is America not Europe, so unfortunately our train systems are not as advanced nor do the trains travel as frequently. Renting a pick-up truck or oversized SUV though and we've got you covered!
As it stands there is only one train that leaves each day from San Diego and stops in San Clemente & San Juan Capistrano (departs around 3:30pm I believe). The link above is for the Pacific Surfliner which goes along the coast and is extremely scenic. You can also train down from LA to San Clemente.
If you are not planning on renting a car or coordinating a ride it will be easiest to stay in San Clemente. The bridal party is going to be staying in Laguna Beach, unfortunately the train doesn't stop there, but it is only about 20-25 minutes from SNA airport (John Wayne/Orange County).
Renting a car is a good option if you want the flexibility to travel around and stop when and where you'd like, it will also give you more freedom to explore neighboring beach towns.
Where to Stay - Surrounding Towns
Please feel free to explore accommodation options in the following towns - Laguna Beach, Dana Point & San Clemente. Anywhere north or south of these towns will be too far. See accommodations for hotel recs and blocks! Keep reading for descriptions of each town.
LAGUNA BEACH - The bridal party and Floyd Family will be staying here! There is a free trolley that runs throughout Laguna Beach, definitely utilize this as traffic can be heavy during the summer and parking can be difficult. Laguna Beach is extremely WALKABLE with plenty to see & do, lots of boutique restaurants & shops, boutique shops & scenic beaches. Be sure to explore Heisler Park and nearby Crystal Cove State Park or Top of the World if you're able to! We will be providing roundtrip transportation from Laguna Beach to the venue in San Clemente on the day of the wedding (more details of pickup location & time to come). If you pick your own accommodation here, try to stay south of Canyon Road otherwise it will be too far and traffic will be a nightmare. This is a busy time of year due to the Sawdust Festival (great art fair) and the Pageant of the Masters, so try and make dinner reservations in advance if you can.
SAN CLEMENTE - The West family will be staying here and this is where the wedding is on Sunday! It's got a smaller downtown that is also very walkable although slightly further away from the beach. We have hotel blocks by the venue and downtown. We highly recommend catching a sunset on the pier and eating at the waterfront restaurant on it if you're looking for some incredible seafood.
San Juan Capistrano is a unique town with another train stop. Be sure to tour the old missions, dine at San Juan Capistrano Winery, or go to one of our favorite breweries, Docent!
For those doing an extended stay, we would definitely encourage you to explore San Diego or LA before or after the weekend, but encourage guests to arrive to Orange County on Friday evening, and depart on Monday afternoon (wedding is on a SUNDAY!). Please feel free to reach out to the Bride & Groom for any travel tips & recommendations as we visit both cities frequently.
Considering a road trip up Pacific Coast Highway to San Francisco or to Yosemite? We have got you covered for recs there too! This was one of our favorite trips and is one of the most beautiful drives either of us has ever done.
