Story

Who would have thought that the Isle of Wight was a place to find your future? Especially when one of you is Canadian and had never heard of the island before moving there for work! Well it worked for us. After working closely together during a surgical rotation, we struck up a romance that has blossomed ever since.

We knew quickly we were made for each other and after a year and a half moved in together in Birmingham. After a few months, on a romantic walk through the snow in Blue Mountain, Canada, David popped the question and we got engaged. Sadly, the world had other plans and a global pandemic kept us a bit busy first. In a COVID secure wedding in May 2021, we tied the knot without the large celebrations with all of you that we'd hoped for.

But now the world is starting to look more normal again and with the protection of the jabs in all of our arms we are thrilled to be able to finally get you all together to celebrate our love with us. And the extra year has worked out for the best, as we now have a little bundle of joy to celebrate with on the wedding day too! Yes, that's right, Baby Alex was born just weeks before the celebration day.

We really hope that you will be able to come and share our day with us - drink, dance and catch up again after too much time apart - we look forward to your RSVP!

Tidbits

Why did you both end up on the Isle of Wight?

It's complicated. We were randomly placed there by the system that decides junior doctors' jobs in the UK. David wanted it as it was near the beach. Jeanette fell into it after visa issues - but hey, we think it worked out for the best!

How did he propose?

On a snowy walk on Blue Mountain in Canada. You can see a picture just after it happened in the Schedule section of the website. Jeanette's brother, James, was tasked with filming it but slipped halfway through.

Did you get married already?

We are officially married already. We married in a small COVID secure wedding in May 2021 at the Clock Barn with 4 guests and a small Zoom audience. We missed celebrating with all of you but our venue let us move our date so we could make those celebrations happen in 2022.

Q & A

For all our friends and family who have lots of questions, please check out our Q & A first!

When is the RSVP deadline?

Please RSVP by Saturday March 5th so our headcount is accurate and you get to enjoy a meal of your choosing.

Can I bring a date?

Sorry, no. Only named guests are invited to the day.

What should I wear?

Please dress in smart, semi-formal attire. We do not expect black tie dress.

Is the wedding indoors or outdoors?

The ceremony and reception will mostly be conducted indoors with access to outside space for drinks and photos, weather permitting.

What will the weather be like?

For those from North America, the British spring is an unpredictable thing. The weather is forecasted to be 18'C and sunny but showers are a remote possibility. Gentlemen, if you have a suit jacket you should be plenty warm enough. Ladies, we would recommend bringing a shawl or jacket for the evening. We will provide some umbrellas if you wanted to brave the elements in case of rain. Also, for those hay-fever sufferers, bear in mind the pollen count is likely to be high so dose yourself up on your antihistamines.

Are masks required? Will they be provided?

Masks are not mandatory in the UK and we do not expect anyone to wear one; this is a personal choice and if you would like to wear a face covering feel free. Please do not attend if you have symptoms of COVID-19. As we will have vulnerable adults and our newborn baby Alex in attendance, where possible please take a lateral flow test within 72hrs of the ceremony and do not attend if positive.

Where should I park?

There is plenty of free parking opposite the barn, to the right if you drive in from the A34 turn off.

Are the ceremony and reception locations wheelchair accessible?

Yes and you do not have to move between venues as it is all in one building and its surrounding green space.

What if I have a dietary restriction?

Please inform us when RSVPing with your menu selections, our caterers will do what they can to accommodate.

Is it okay to take pictures with our phones and cameras during the wedding?

Absolutely, feel free to document the day! We'd love you to share them all with us via the app. Can we kindly ask however that you don't share photos of baby Alex on social media.

I am coming from out of town. Where should I stay?

Please see the travel section for recommendations on locations and hotels.

Registry

Your presence is enough of a present to us! But for those of you who are stubborn, we've put together a wish-list to help you out.
