We first met through a mutual friend in June 2014. My (Jess) co-worker (shoutout John Manzo) invited us both to a rooftop party at his new apartment. My sister and I went and while we did not cross paths at the party, Mike told me years later that he remembered the moment I walked in. Fast forward six months and another run in at a nightclub. This time, I noticed the exact moment Mike walked in the room. We didn't exchange numbers that night but did remember each other. Over the next six months, we worked in the same building in downtown Chicago and never crossed paths but both wondered about the person we had run into in those past encounters. Come April 2015, Alyse and I were invited to another party at Kirkwood in Lakeview. The party ended up being a going away party for Mike's brother Josh and this time when we saw each other...we didn't waste any more time. Mike asked me on our first date that night. A week later he took me to the ballet and out to dinner at Franklin Room and the rest is history.
