Ferry

Ferry to Vashon

You'll need your car on Vashon unless you want to ride your bike! The farm is too far from the ferry terminal for walking. There is a bus but my sense is it won't be super convenient but go for it if you want to try! There are a few Lyft drivers and perhaps a single taxi on the island.

Q & A

For all our friends and family who have lots of questions, please check out our Q & A first!

What should I wear?

Be festive! This certainly isn't black tie but you might want to fancy up your jeans.

What kind of shoes should/shouldn't I wear?

We will be outside for the ceremony in the grass. So something you can get around in. Unless you are a pro in your stilettos.

Whom should I call with questions?

Julie or Jonathon! We are the wedding planners! Until the day of, when our phones and focus will be elsewhere. Then, my dear friend Cassady will basically be the MC and is a good person to find for questions or a good laugh.

When is the RSVP deadline?

The sooner the better but we hope by the end of May!

Can I bring a date?

Can we be your date? Cuz we're keepin' it small!

Are kids welcome?

If they're yours, they are welcome, so please let us know either way!

What time should I arrive?

We'd recommend arriving before the ceremony starts! You are free to come as early as 3:30 pm (unless we've assigned you duties and you need to be there earlier - you know who you are!). Have a beverage, check out the farm, use the bathroom (there is one on the main floor of the house), get to know some of our amazing family and friends! Though there will be plenty of time to socialize after too! We will start the ceremony promptly at 4:30 pm!

Where should I park?

There is parking on the street alongside the farm. Please do not park in front of mailboxes though because word has it the postal person becomes grouchy. The driveway and carport are reserved for caterers and other happenings. There should be enough parking for everyone on the street where you will enter the garden (side gate). This is SW 238th Street. Carpooling always encouraged! We will have signs and cones to help make things clear.

Are the ceremony and reception locations wheelchair accessible?

Not really. If we don't know this about you already or you have a new thing please get in touch with us!

Story

Julie:
Jonathon and I met through OkCupid - of course! Jonathon kept showing up but only as matched in the low 90% range. As much as that algorithm is accurate, I know now that something was missing! So I finally decided to check him out. He played uke! He was a dancer! He was an ER nurse (he said nothing about living on a sailboat, so I had no idea about that fun part)! He responded, we talked a bit and then we decided to meet. He asked me out to breakfast on a Wednesday morning. What?! Who does that?! We met at the Greenlake Dish Cafe at 8am (I was so happy there was someone else in Seattle that went out for breakfast instead of brunch and got up as early as me)! Right away I felt at ease with him and we laughed so easily together. That smile! You all know that sparkly-eyed smile...

Jonathon:
I remember the first time I laid eyes on Julie. Our date was at a local breakfast spot near Julie's neighborhood, when she entered the restaurant it was instantly lit up by her bright smile. Our conversation was exciting and I recall laughing a lot. I didn't do the usual two day wait to contact her. After our date was over, I couldn't stop thinking about her. I texted her that night telling her I couldn't wait to see her again. I also couldn't wait to get her out on my newly acquired sailing vessel, the Shearwater. I took a group out to Blake Island, a small island only accessible by boat and sandwiched between Bainbridge and Vashon Islands. She stayed close to me as I motored the windless conditions south from Elliot Bay Marina. I felt a very warm and comforting feeling being with her. We also ventured out on our own a couple of times. One time in particular was quite windy and there were waves rocking the boat. Julie had the line that controls the main sail and was lowering it. She peeked her head up from beneath the boat's dodger and the boom hit her on the forehead and nose. She stayed in the boat, thankfully and I brought us back to the slip. She brushed it off and I thought to myself...this is one tough cookie!!! We've had so many experiences since then. She is such a great sport and and my heart still melts when I see her smile.

Tidbits

How did you first meet?

See Our Story!

Who made the first move? How?

I contacted him through OkCupid! But I think it was the second date I got invited back to the boat!

Who's going to take out the trash?

Jonathon most often takes out the trash. And compost. And recycling. I help with this sometimes.

What was your most memorable date?

We went canoe camping on Baker Lake pretty early on. I practically gave my brother GPS coordinates because what single woman goes out into a remote wooded location in the early parts of dating? I think this date might have been the clincher for both of us, for so many and probably very different reasons!

What's your favorite activity together?

Biking, hiking, sailing, Westy camping, exploring the natural world and exploring the city with all of its art, food, music and dancing!

Where are you going for your honeymoon?

Portugal! Given the international travel restrictions we aren't sure when though. So a "mini-moon" is in the making. I'm voting for Santa Fe or Asheville, NC but we'll see!

What's the best meal you have eaten together?

We ate scallops and drank rose on the sailboat while the sun set at Blake Island. Jonathon made a great meal that night and the atmosphere was unmatched!

What's the most memorable trip you have taken together?

Ireland! And we have done some good traveling together so it's hard to say only that. Bikecamping Lopez Island, sailing the San Juans for two weeks summer of 2019, Glacier by Westy, Portland ice storm...
