Story
The first time that I saw Justin was during our Drumline auditions for the marching band. This was in the summer of 2015 at band camp for our Junior year. I somehow never saw Justin around the school during the two school years prior. I truly believe that God allowed our paths to cross at the right timing.
Before our Junior year, I had a challenging time in school. I told my Mom, " I wish that I could find someone who was not only in the band but in drumline as well." If I wanted a boyfriend, I wanted him to be in drumline, to have time to see him. I knew that there wasn't anyone in drumline in my grade that I could date and that this was an impossible expectation. When I walked into auditions, that was the first time I noticed Justin. He did band during our freshman year, taking a gap year during sophomore year. I wasn't in the band my freshman year, I started band our sophomore year. Our paths never crossed until the timing was right for both of us. I went home that day and told my Mom about Justin, she looked at his picture in the yearbook and said, "that's your future husband." I thought she was crazy, and that there was no way that I could be with a random curly hair guy who is now in drumline with me. I worked up the courage to start the conversations between us, resulting in Justin asking me to our school homecoming! A week later, Justin asked me to be his girlfriend on October 1st, 2015.
It's crazy to say that we're High School Sweethearts. We have grown up together, and we've been there for each other during the good and bad days. Since we started dating, we have graduated high school, earned our associate's degrees, worked/are working at Chick-fil-A, where we both had Manager experience and met many of our closest friends. I (Katelyn) will be earning my Bachelor's degree in January for Elementary Education K-6 with special education certification, and Justin is close to finishing up his Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering.
We're thankful to share some of our life-changing experiences, such as band, High school, College, and Chick-fil-A as a couple. The last six years have been the best years of our lives, and we can't wait to share the rest of our accomplishments and experiences as a married couple!

How did he propose?
Justin proposed on July 7th, 2020. It seemed to be a typical day where we dressed up and went to Rehoboth. We did our usual outlets shopping, boardwalk claw machine, enjoyed thrashers fries, and took pictures. It started to storm, making us drive all over to find things to do. Justin decided that we should go to our favorite spot, the Indian River Inlet with a beautiful bridge and beach. The storm stopped just in time for my surprise proposal, Justin played "Marry You" by Bruno Mars on the bridge before reaching our destination. We walked out to the beach where most of the summer crowd was gone from the storm, and a heart made out of shells was right by the water where Justin then proposed. I was so surprised and my nails were even done thanks to my own plans a week prior. This was truly the best day where we spent the day like normal but with a beautiful surprise ending. Justin is not the one in the relationship that enjoys coming up with surprises or "cute" detailed plans. He worked so hard on this proposal and he was so nervous to make it just right. I couldn't have asked for a better way to be asked, it was the easiest yes of course!
What's your favorite activity together?
We love to go hiking together! Our favorite hiking location is Rocks State Park in Jarrettsville, MD.
Where are you going for your honeymoon?
TBD!
What's the most memorable trip you have taken together?
We have had several travel destinations throughout our six years together. Our senior band trip to New Orleans was Katelyn's first time on a plane! We had the opportunity to travel to a new place together while doing what we loved, performing. Katelyn even made it on TV during the Sugar Bowl parade. Justin enjoyed the New Orleans-styled food and we got to experience New Year's Eve in a different time zone. Our new year's kiss happened while we were walking back to our hotel in the pouring rain, in our black-tie formal dress clothes. This was a memorable trip to end our time in the marching band.
A life goal of ours
