Our Story

Why Crete?

We have enjoyed lovely holidays together to the Greek Islands of Zakynthos, Santorini, Corfu and Crete.

On 9th July 2023, Gavin proposed as we sailed towards Santorini - this will always be a special place for us because of this.

A few days after we got engaged we travelled to Crete and explored the beautiful area of Chania and both absolutely loved it! We knew there and then that Crete was exactly where we wanted to get married!

Greece is also a very special place for Katie and her family. Katie's Dad and late Mum, Ken and Tracy, eloped to Mastihari, Kos to get married in 1992. Katie, her sister Rosie and their Mum and Dad enjoyed holidays to Greece for many years.

A message from us both

We have chosen to have an intimate wedding with our closest family and friends. We would love it if you were able to join us to celebrate our wedding in Crete.

We understand that travelling abroad to celebrate our wedding is a huge ask and we completely understand if you aren’t able to join us. We will be planning a celebration at The Granary, Leith, Edinburgh on 24th May 2025 so if it is too much of a commitment to travel to Crete to celebrate, please celebrate with us back home instead.

Flying to Crete

There are two airports in Crete - Heraklion and Chania. Heraklion is where you can get direct flights from Edinburgh, Glasgow, London and Newcastle. There are also a selection of daily flights from London to Chania.

Where to stay

We recommend that you stay in Rethymno. The drive from both airports to Rethymno is just over an hour and both airports have transportation options; buses, taxis and rental cars.

There are many accommodation options available in Rethymno including villas, apartments and hotels. Below are some links to booking websites:

Registry

We are already asking so much of you to travel to Crete for our special day. We appreciate the commitment this will take and are both so excited to spend our day with you.

Your presence means so much to us both and is enough of a present to us!

However, if you do wish to gift us a wedding present we would appreciate a small contribution towards our honeymoon fund.

Q & A

Please let us know if you have any other questions!

What will the weather be like?

Weather in April sees highs of 25 degrees during the day and lows of 11 degrees in the evening. However, it may be a little breezy in the evening of the wedding due to the location.

Can I bring a date?

We are having a small, intimate wedding and have created a guestlist which is made up of our closest family and friends. Therefore, only those named on the invitation are able to attend.

We are going to celebrate with a party at the Granary in Leith, Edinburgh on 24th May 2025 for those who cannot spend our special day with us.

Post Wedding BBQ

We are hosting a BBQ on Wednesday 16th April at our villa and would love to see you there.
