Story

The first time meeting, was early April 2020 on a masked and socially distanced walk along the waterfront. Maybe we were desperate for human connection or maybe we just enjoyed each other’s company, but the “little coffee meet” turned into a 6 hour walk! After many more walks, bike rides, and takeout on park benches, we took advantage of the “forced slow down” to spend quality time together. Lynzy had warned Ken early on that she was not going to waste her time with a guy once she started graduate school if he wasn’t serious. At the tail end of the summer along a riverbed in Rainer NP, Lynzy asked Ken if he would be her serious boyfriend. Eight months later, Ken would ask a similar question along a riverbed in Olympic NP. We’ll let you guess what their answers were. ;)

Tidbits

Where are you going for your honeymoon?

"BarTHalona!" for endless tapas and wine, flamenco dancing, and a motorcycle ride through the countryside!

What was your most memorable date?

With the city very well shut down, it took some dating creativity. Our most memorable date was driving out on a forest highway where we parked on the side of a hill and enjoyed some breakfast burritos from the tailgate. Over the dating year, we’ve enjoyed many a spectacular meal from the tailgate.

What's your favorite activity together?

Roadtripping and the great outdoors! Ken's childhood growing up in a long-haul truck combined with Lynzy's many years of camping and solo backpacking excursions makes for a dynamic adventure duo! In the past year, we've visited most of the National Parks on the west coast and put thousands of miles on Ken's Tacoma.

The most spontaneous thing we’ve done

While discussing woodworking one evening over dinner, Ken mentioned a wood shop out at the coast that had myrtle wood and black walnut. Lynzy joking said, "Let's go!" and about an hour later we were on our way to Garibaldi for a spontaneous camping trip so we could go to the wood shop in the morning.

The dorkiest thing about us is

Ken's desire to get an advanced degree in almost anything: PhD in biomedical engineering (check!), DMD, JD, MBA, PhD in Math...Ken fell in love with Lynzy's laugh (which he swears it sounds like the nerds from Revenge of the Nerds..."NERD!") and that she understood bone cell terminology and used the word "riparian zone" on a date.

We take pride in

Home improvement projects! Lynzy did a few minor projects around her house before meeting Ken. His big dreams, skill, and brawn has taken it to a whole new level! Ken built Lynzy a beautiful shed to prove it! We love dreaming up and doing projects together. One of our early dates was grabbing coffee and walking around neighborhoods pointing out architecture and landscaping we liked.

A life goal of ours

is to live a life of truth, beauty, and goodness in service to God and others.

Note

Explore the Coast!

For the land-locked, Cannon Beach is a small, boutique beach town home of the famous Haystack Rock and Ecola State Park (1:30hr drive).
Check out:
- Watch the surfers at Shortsands Beach
- Fill up on saltwater taffy at Bruce’s Candy Kitchen
- Prefer a quieter town? Head down to Manzanita
- Take a scenic drive along the coast from Cannon to Tillamook. Make sure to grab some ice cream and squeaky cheese (yes, it does squeak) from the Tillamook Cheese Factory along the way

Note

Explore Wine Country!

The Willamette Valley is famous for it’s wines. Head south to Dundee and spend your day sipping vino and taking in the beautiful countryside. Some favorites are:
- Sokol Blosser: enjoy the beautiful architecture of their tasting room and views!
- Eminent Domaine: sit under the covered patio to enjoy valley views
- Argyle: if you like sparkly wine
- And MANY MORE!!!

Note

Explore the Gorge! It’s gorgeous!

- Multnomah Falls - hike a loop of falls
- Eagle Creek waterfall hike
- Easy, incredible views: drive to the Vista House
- Stop in at Hood River and explore the downtown shops or watch kite boarders on the river

Q & A

For all our friends and family who have lots of questions, please check out our Q & A first!

When is the RSVP deadline?

Please RSVP by September 1st, so we have an accurate headcount. Make sure to respond for each person in your party.

Can I bring a date?

Check your invite for the guests listed. If you'd like to bring a date, please let me know so we can appropriately accommodate.

Are kids welcome?

Kids are welcome to join the ceremony, but it will be an adult reception (+breast-feeding infants). We recognize that some of you will be traveling with your kids, so please know they are welcome at the Friday out-of-towner dinner. If you are interested in a babysitting service, please reach out so we can help accommodate your needs.

What will the weather be like?

Welcome to Oregon, all of you out-of-towners! The weather here in September can be a little unpredictable: sun, overcast, rain, smoke (“wildfire season” is becoming a thing - it’s been a VERY dry summer). During the day, the weather in Portland should be beautiful, averaging 65-70 degrees, but it will get chilly at night. Please bring some warm layers for the evening - a little bit of everything and a look at the forecast before you leave, is always a good idea. Despite our love for the outdoors, our wedding will be all indoors, because Lynzy only wanted a Plan A wedding.

Where should I park?

There is a small parking lot and neighborhood street parking. All free parking.
There is street parking for the reception that is free on the weekends - it’s usually not too full in this area, but carpool if you can!
The two venues are about 20 minutes apart.

Are the ceremony and reception locations wheelchair accessible?

You betcha!

What should I wear?

Casual BBQ attire for the out-of-towner dinner on Friday.
Cocktail attire for the wedding Saturday.
Rompin’ around town for all other excursions!

Is the wedding indoors or outdoors?

Our wedding is indoors!
*There is temperature control at the reception, but not at the ceremony.

What kind of shoes should/shouldn't I wear?

Dancing shoes! Or wear those fancy shoes in the back of your closet that you have always wanted to show off, but don’t have many opportunities - but don’t be afraid to kick them off and dance a jig!

Is it okay to take pictures with our phones and cameras during the wedding?

Not for the ceremony, but feel free to whip them out for the reception! Please tag your photos: #lifetimeofWeekes so we can all share the wealth!

Whom should I call with questions?

Please call/text/email Lynzy with questions: (503)706-1796. Lynzy.elzinga@gmail.com or her incredibly supportive mom, Loni: (503)317-2583 lonielzinga@icloud.com. She’s particularly helpful for childcare needs.

Lynzy’s sister, Jen, is heading up the Friday dinner, so call/text for questions: (503)866-1774.

But anything on September 18th, the lovely and amazing Sarah Fortner will be your go to: (503)799-2433. I’m not lying about the amazing part! She has an emergency wedding kit that I think has everything, but a defibrillator. In life threatening cases, yell “Code Blue” and Lynzy’s bridesmaid/trauma RN/Nurse Practioner Kayla Kibler will take great care of you. She’ll even do it with a cute southern accent ;)
