Story

Caitlin and Kevin met in 2011 when they were placed in the same Peace Corps group traveling to Lesotho to be education volunteers for the next two years. From neighboring towns in Michigan, they quickly became close friends during their training at the beginning of their stay in Lesotho. Another product of fate (or maybe just luck), they were placed in neighboring villages to complete their two years of service–– a mountain and 2 hour hike was all that separated them! They fended off boredom by cooking pizza in dutch ovens (when they were fortunate enough to find cheese), exploring South Africa, venting about teaching for the first time, and listening to music on repeat in their rondavels... eventually falling in love!

4 years later....

They were visiting Denver for Christmas with Cait's family. Alexa had made her promise to help her grocery shop before their trip up to the mountains, and you don't say 'no' to that girl. After getting 'lost' and needing to pull over, Cait noticed that they were in her old neighborhood where Kevin and she had lived after returning from Lesotho. Then, she noticed the hot man standing by the lake. It took her a while to figure out what was happening, and after being kicked out of the car, she saw the <3 heart <3 Kevin had carved in the snow and filled in with rose petals. And Cait was all, "What!? Is this a fairy tale?!" He got down on one knee in the snow and asked her to marry him. So now, they're having a wedding....

.... and you’re invited!

Tidbits

What was your most memorable date?

8 months into our Peace Corps Service, we were both home to visit our families and had our first real "date." We biked down the Grand River Trail, drank Black Labels at Tin Can (and thought it was hilariously ironic), and went to a music festival in Lansing. Top notch!

What's your favorite activity together?

Definitely cooking– we cook together [almost] every night. Might be a habit we picked up in Lesotho as a thing to do as a couple? Talk, unwind, maybe have a drink–– we are pretty good at it!

Who's going to take out the trash?

Based on our current track record... that would be Kevin.

Who made the first move? How?

Would you believe us if we said... that was also Kevin!?

What's the best meal you have eaten together?

We will never forget the time during a short trip to Dubai, we felt a little fancy, and ordered a "steak sandwich to split" via room service. The guy rolled in with six steak sandwiches!

Where are you going for your honeymoon?

We are planning on spending the week before our wedding in Michigan with friends and family, then maybe a mini-moon after somewhere not too far. Or maybe Bali–– the dreams are still big!

What's the most memorable trip you have taken together?

We have had some good trips together. The one that stands out is after we finished Peace Corps, we rented a car and took a road trip through the Garden Route and Cape Town in South Africa, stopped in Dubai, and met Kevin's parents, Emily, and Donald in the Virgin Islands to go sailing! Life felt free and like there was so much ahead of us! From amazing hostels and markets in South Africa, to dune bashing in Dubai, and jumping off the boat snorkeling in the middle of December– we would gladly repeat!

What nicknames do you have for each other?

Baber. Tator. Kevin calls Cait ‘Beans’ because of a camping trip where she was in charge of packing the dinner…. woops!

Who's your favorite cat?

DEWEY!

Q & A

For all our friends and family who have lots of questions, please check out our FAQ first!

When is the RSVP deadline?

Please mail your RSVP's by June 1st.

Is there transportation being provided between reception and hotels?

There will be a shuttle provided to and from the cottage if you are staying at Shanty Creek Resort. Unfortunately, Bellaire does not have any available taxi services (not even Uber). We suggest either taking advantage of the shuttle service by staying at Shanty or making sure you have a sober ride home!

What time should I arrive?

We suggest arriving around 5:15pm, which will give you enough time to park, grab a drink, and find your seat for the ceremony!

What should I wear?

Wear appropriate shoes for walking on grass and dress comfortably for an outdoor celebration!

Are kids welcome?

Yes! The more the merrier.
