Story

Kevin and Jaimee serendipitously met at a bar, the Penny Farthing, in New York City on a summer's night in 2014. Kevin caught Jaimee's eye from across the bar and found her in a conversation it looked like she wanted to dodge. The gentleman that he is, Kevin jumped in hoping not to be the next person she'd want to dodge. Despite the loud music, the conversation came naturally. Kevin learned about Jaimee's recent year in Barcelona and commented "You're a lot more interesting than you give yourself credit for" which was the first of many weird yet endearing things he would say to her.

Kevin tried to make plans with Jaimee once or twice a week for several weeks and his relentless determination finally overwhelmed Jaimee at which point she agreed to a Monday night date. They met for a rooftop drink at Sutton Place and Kevin proved he is the only person in the world who can talk about purchasing and returning furniture from Ikea for 45 minutes. He is still bitter that the trip to Ikea cost him $1 more than the value of the things he returned. For reasons yet to be understood, Jaimee loved it. They talked into the night and Kevin walked Jaimee to Grand Central before they went their ways.

The next meetup took less convincing. The following Sunday, the day before Labor Day, Kevin and Jaimee met to spend the afternoon together. They met at the clocktower in Grand Central and took the subway towards the Highline. By the time they got there, a flash storm was pelting the city with heavy rain. A crowd bunched around the 8th avenue L stop exit, as people covered their heads with umbrellas, jackets and backpacks. Defying the Gods, Kevin and Jaimee burst out of the station and huddled under their single umbrella. The rain came down with such fury that even those with umbrellas were wet from the waist down and most chose to stay underneath overhangs. Drenched and with a vast swath of the Highline to themselves, they laughed. Minutes later, sunshine pushed the rain aside forming a rainbow in its wake - this literally happened.

Now, convincing was no longer needed. Kevin and Jaimee haven't spent more than two weeks apart since - and that was only because Jaimee had a business trip to Israel!

Tidbits

How did you first meet?

See Our Story!

Who made the first move? How?

He made the first move when he texted me on New Years day. A few hours later we had plans for dinner that week.

Who's going to take out the trash?

Whoever happens to be closer to the trash :)

We spent one of our first dates biking and then kayaking through the sea caves in San Diego. Our guide joked that a few hours in a shared kayak is enough to test any relationship—he was right! But we survived and that adventure remains one of our favorite memories.

What's your favorite activity together?

We love to paddleboard and bike in the park!

Where are you going for your honeymoon?

Anywhere with beautiful beaches! Maybe the Maldives before it goes completely underwater?

What's the best meal you have eaten together?

We treated ourselves to a five-course meal in Paris. It was magical.

What's the most memorable trip you have taken together?

Last April we were able to see the Northern Lights in Norway. It was incredible!

Getting to New York

For those traveling greater distances, we recommend flying into Albany International Airport and making the 45 minute drive to Hudson. If you prefer to fly into NYC, John F. Kennedy, LaGuardia or Newark are great options as well but the drive to Hudson will be closer to 2 and a half hours.

Train

Getting to Hudson New York

Okay! You've made it to New York and now you want to get to Hudson.

From NYC and the surrounding suburbs, you can drive to Hudson New York or take the train. Hudson does have it's own Amtrak station which is very convenient but please note that the Metro North does not run to Hudson. An Uber or Lyft from the Amtrak station will likely only be a few minutes to your hotel or Airbnb.

From Albany International Airport we recommend renting a car or taking an Uber or Lyft to your hotel or Airbnb.

Car

Getting around Hudson

Hudson in a small walkable town with tons of character. Warren Street acts as the center of town and if you're staying in Hudson near Warren Street you do not need a car. Warren Street and a few of its neighboring streets are full of restaurants and shops to explore. On the day of the wedding, a shuttle will ride up and down Warren Street to bring you to and from The Basilica.

If you choose to stay in a hotel in a neighboring town or if you're going to make a longer weekend out of your Hudson trip (it will be the end of foliage season!) you should plan on taking Uber's and Lyft's or having your own car.

Where to Stay

Early November is the end of foliage season in Hudson New York and we recommend booking your accommodations as soon as you're able! There are several other weddings in Hudson throughout the weekend and some hotels may require a 2 night minimum.

Hudson is filled with boutique hotels and Airbnb options on and near Warren Street. Below are a few of our suggestions.
