Story

Our first date was at Candycane Lane. We picked up some fancy hot chocolate from Bernard Callebaut and froze our butts off on a very chilly December evening. After that went really well, Kristi knew Joseph needed to meet Gator, so we went back to Kristi's apartment and watched Bad Santa. Gator instantly loved him, and Kristi knew he was pretty special if he was willing to play an extended game of "Inside Outside Inside Outside Inside Outside" with her.

A side note about this time in our lives: Kristi was going through a series of tragedies in her family. Meeting Joseph felt like the universe giving her a gift in an otherwise dark and challenging year.

Tidbits

What was your most memorable date?

This is a tough one. We've done a lot of great hikes together and when it isn't a pandemic we love visiting a local pub and trying a flight of craft beer.

What's your favorite activity together?

Anything outside (Kristi's preference) or watching a movie/TV show (Joseph's preference).

Where are you going for your honeymoon?

Somewhere relaxing and beautiful that we've never seen before! If the pandemic allows, we'd love to visit somewhere in Europe (perhaps explore our Norwegian roots?)

What's the best meal you have eaten together?

In Kristi's humble opinion, every episode of "Breakfast for Joey" was pretty tasty.

What's the most memorable trip you have taken together?

We haven't had the chance to travel much during the pandemic, but we did get to go on an incredible trip to Hawaii with Joseph's family. Kristi even managed to talk Joseph into cage diving with sharks.

We’re on the same page about

Our values. We don't disagree on much.

A life goal of ours

We would both like to travel, have children, and we have discussed saving for a small cabin on a lake to spend our summers.

A social cause we care about

Climate change.

What is the engagement story?

We have long planned to get married, and Kristi already had many details ironed out before the formal engagement. Joseph planned a traditional proposal and found a magical moment on top of Sulphur Mountain in Banff on our 3rd anniversary trip to the mountains. It was a chilly December evening (kind of like when we first met!) and we could see Banff lit up below us for Christmas. While Kristi cracked jokes about feeling like the grinch looking down on Whoville, Joseph asked her to marry him.

Q & A

For all our friends and family who have lots of questions, please check out our Q & A first!

When is the RSVP deadline?

Please RSVP by April 18th, so we can have an accurate headcount.

Can I bring a date?

Please check your invite for your +1!

Are kids welcome?

Please check your invite!

Where should I park?

There is plenty of free parking at the ceremony. Please leave prime parking spots for those with limited mobility. The reception parking can be found at Stadium Car Park - the fee is approximately $5.00 and you are able to leave your vehicle overnight (if you come back for it early, or add additional hours using the online app). Take the pedway to the SUB. Once you enter the pedway, turn left and head up to the second floor via elevator or stairs. We will also have signage helping you along the way!

Are the ceremony and reception locations wheelchair accessible?

Yes, and we will have a golf cart available for anyone needing assistance getting around the ceremony property. The reception venue is also wheelchair accessible, and we have access to the service elevator for the most direct access.

What should I wear?

Clothes.

Is the wedding indoors or outdoors?

Our wedding ceremony is outdoors and the reception is indoors. We have a back-up plan for the ceremony in the event of inclement weather.

What kind of shoes should/shouldn't I wear?

The parking lot at the ceremony is gravel and guest seating will be on grass, so stilettos might not be super fun. There is a little bit of a walk from the parking to reception venue at the University of Alberta, so wear something comfortable (and ideally something you can dance the night away in!)

Is it okay to take pictures with our phones and cameras during the wedding?

No phones during the ceremony, please and thank you!
During the reception - give'er. We'd love for you to share photos with us afterward - if using social media, feel free to use #kristilovesjoey

Whom should I call with questions?

Please check our wedding website for details first. If you can't find what you are looking for, Kristi can be reached at (780) 340-7435. We will have a different contact person arranged for the week of the wedding so Kristi can relax and enjoy!

Is there a gifts registry?

We are fortunate to have a furnished home and are not asking for any gifts.

What about COVID?

We will be closely following the most up-to-date COVID 19 public health actions. At the present time, the University of Alberta (our reception venue) does not require proof of vaccination to attend events on the property. We will provide updated information closer to the date of the wedding. Our main priority is to keep everyone safe while we celebrate!
