Story
Kyle and Julia met as randomly assigned chemistry lab partners at UNC - Chapel Hill in September of 2016. After their first lab session, Julia rushed home to tell her roommates about her cute lab partner and how she was determined to ask him on a date by the end of the semester.
After a semester of shattered test tubes, Kyle's many stories about Salem, and an early text from Julia about her malaria diagnosis (their first ever text messages), she finally built up the courage to ask him to a party.
On their first date, Julia attended Kyle's Harmonyx A Cappella concert before joining her friends at Back Bar for a cocktail party. The next thing they knew, it was 2 o'clock in the morning and they were still chatting on the couch in the Phi Mu common room. The next weekend, they found each other at a UNC football game, and from that point on the pair were inseparable.
Six years, five jobs, and four cities later, Kyle asked Julia to marry him on a perfect October evening in their beloved neighborhood, Boston's South End. After a stunned "What is happening," Julia said "Yes!" Surrounded by friends and loved ones, Kyle and Julia celebrated their engagement with their favorite way to spend an evening - a delicious meal.
Tidbits
How did you first meet?
We were randomly assigned Chemistry 102 lab partners.
Who made the first move? How?
Julia texted Kyle and invited him to her sorority's cocktail party.
What was your most memorable date?
When a hunk of VERY blue cheese (neither of our favorite) snuck it's way into the best meal we had during our trip to Barcelona...
What's your favorite activity together?
We love to explore the city. Long weekend walks through Boston are bliss for us - especially if they include a pit stop for tea and a treat or end at a new restaurant to check off the list!
Where are you going for your honeymoon?
We haven't decided - suggestions are welcome! We'll be going in December.
What's the best meal you have eaten together?
Our first meal at Aragosta, and we promise we're not just saying that.
We’re on the same page about
What's important to us.
The most spontaneous thing we’ve done
We decided to drive from Chapel Hill to New York City at 7pm because of a campus-wide water crisis.
A social cause we care about
Public health. Julia is an RN studying to become a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner and Kyle works for a food justice nonprofit based in Roxbury.
We are regulars at
All of our South End favorites: Greystone, SAULT (Kyle's first job in the city), Formaggio, PICCO, and, of course, Toro.
