Dear friends, thank you for wanting to send us a gift! We are combining two houses, so we already have nearly everything we need at home. We would love to upgrade some of our kitchen equipment and are also saving up for a honeymoon in Costa Rica.

Story

We met in December 2019 on a dating app Hinge and started talking online. Our first date was December 29th at Busboys and Poets Restaurant in DC. It was nonstop talking and eating for 6 hours, only halted due to needing to go home and feed the cats! Karen asked for a second date on New Year's Eve. Karen wrote Lauren a poem and they both knew she was the one.

A few months later, the pandemic hit and Karen moved in with Lauren for the lockdown. If ever a love would be tested, it would be then. We had two years of intense time together - loving, learning, laughing and supporting each other during the roller coaster of this pandemic. We developed a strong foundation for our relationship moving forward.

Karen proposed to Lauren in February 2021 at Brookside Gardens in the forest at sunset. Karen had been trying to pull Lauren away from a backyard maple syrup boil (it takes HOURS to boil maple sap down!), and finally, she realized Karen was trying to get her out of the house to propose! We went straight to a backyard gathering with Lauren's family afterward to share the good news.

Tidbits

How did you first meet?

See Our Story!

Who made the first move? How?

Karen reached out to Lauren despite misgivings about her being 15 years younger and robbing the cradle (alas she is only 12 years younger!).

What was your most memorable date?

New Year's Eve we met for a sunset walk through the Arboretum, then went to Home Depot to find a firepit for Lauren's deck (Lauren slipped and said "our deck"), and then went home for a home-cooked curry.

What's your favorite activity together?

We love to hike and forage for mushrooms together!

Where are you going for your honeymoon?

We are heading to Costa Rica for two weeks in June!

What's the most memorable trip you have taken together?

For Karen's 50th in 2020, we took a road trip up to Upstate New York to see the fall foliage and hike. We've also traveled to Duck, NC for an annual family beach trip with Lauren's family twice, and to Palm Coast, Florida to see Karen's parents. We went to San Fransisco in 2021 to visit Karen's brother Mel.

What's important to us, being present and living life in the moment. Kindness and compassion, love above all.
