Our Story
"Music sounds better with you"
In 2008, Darrick had just moved to Los Angeles and had an internship interview at Universal Music Group Distribution. Low and behold, Lindsay was the one conducting the interview. At the time, Lindsay was transitioning out of her position overseeing the internship program, so she didn't work much with Darrick over the next two years. However, all Lindsay ever heard were glowing reviews and high praise about Darrick's work ethic and character.
Fast forward to Spring 2010, Lindsay was jonesing for a solid early 90s hip hop mixed CD. She was pointed to Darrick who was known to have a deep love of hip hop. This spawned Lindsay and Darrick to set up a calendar of themed mixed CDs to swap over a two month period. We competed to see who created the better mixed CD and we would also make them for coworkers to have them vote. Let's just say Lindsay came out on top with the 'New Jack Swing' mix (you can tell who is writing this).
The turning point of their relationship was the Rock The Bells Festival in August 2010. Lindsay had never been to the festival before and was particularly stoked to go see the Tribe Called Quest reunion (she was a late bloomer and discovered their music in college). However, a friend she was supposed to go with backed out at the last minute. She remembered that Darrick might be going to the festival and asked him about it. Lindsay was taken aback by Darrick's kindness as he offered his extra ticket and a ride to the festival. Lindsay was stepping outside of her comfort zone going to a festival with friends she didn't know very well--but as always, music definitely brings people together. They both had an amazing time and Lindsay realized she was beginning to have feelings for Darrick--it was probably hearing "Award Tour" live that really put her over the edge. From then on, Lindsay and Darrick were inseparable at work and when going to shows. They had an instant connection and became inspired by each other's passion and drive in work, music, and life.
After developing an incredible friendship, Darrick asked Lindsay to be his girlfriend on her birthday, February 24, 2012. Four years later on February 24, 2016, Darrick got down on one knee at Record Surplus in Santa Monica (with Stevie Wonder's "Knock Me Off My Feet" playing) and asked Lindsay to join him in this crazy ride called life.
