Story
Go ahead and read the story below to appreciate the sentimentality behind our original dream wedding... But just to reiterate: Thanks to the a-hole weather phenomena known as Hurricane Ian, WE ARE NOW GETTING MARRIED IN ST. PETE AT THE ST. PETE PIER AT THE SAME DAY AND TIME!!! Although we were devastated to learn about the destruction done to our happy place just an hour and a half south, we are excited to make this miraculous pivot to host our family and friends in our hometown. Welcome to the Sunshine City of the Sunshine State!
Nick grew up making visits to his Nana and Papa's Boca Grande house with his family to fish both onshore and offshore. He brought me for my first time in Summer 2009 when we were a new couple and I was still getting to know his family. After tarpon fishing with his parents and siblings, we stole away on the golf cart hunting for iguanas and plumerias. When we returned with our bounty (just flowers, no reptiles), I showed Nick how to string together leis using fishing line, and we presented one floral necklace each to Nana and Papa. A photo of them posing as hula dancers captured the sweet memory for all time. Nick and I have been back to Boca Grande together and with his family on many occasions. It is now a place that holds tremendous sentimental value to us both, and we couldn't think of a more special place to exchange our vows and celebrate our love for life, our families, and each other.
Tidbits
How did you first meet?
The real answer is through mutual friends that Lindsey made at FSU (that's right, we were both born and raised in St. Pete, but never met until college). Nick swears he first met me in his garage during a party he threw for Cinco de Mayo when his parents were out of town; according to him, all I said was "NICE HOUSE."
Who made the first move? How?
It's fair to say we made a mutual first move as each other's NYE kiss to ring in 2009. Many hours and miles of back and forth weekend travel between Tallahassee and Tampa ensued.
Who's going to take out the trash?
We live in an equal opportunity home!
What's your favorite activity together?
WORLD TRAVELING, hands down. Fun fact: Lindsey aced an entire online summer course for Nick in exchange for him to join her on a Euro backpacking trip in 2011. Another fun fact: Since then, we have been to 5 of the 7 continents together except Australia and Antarctica.
Where are you going for your honeymoon?
TBD... it's Nick's turn to pick the next international destination, and he's craving laid back, exotic beach vibes. Depending on Covid's agenda, we'd like to swim with whale sharks in the Philippines. If all goes according to plan, Lindsey will be scuba certified like Nick in time for the honeymoon!
What's the best meal you have eaten together?
This question isn't even fair! With all our traveling and vacationing and over a decade's worth of dating... We are also lucky to both have amazing chefs in our family. Lindsey's parents make chicken crépes that are to die for, and Nick's mom makes a white lasagna that brings all the Smith kids to the table.
What's the most memorable trip you have taken together?
Another unfair question! But have you heard about that one time Nick and Lindsey were road tripping in Big Sur, California...AND NICK GOT A HOLE-IN-ONE AT PEBBLE BEACH?! True story: we were sleeping in our hammocks between giant redwoods in 40-something degree temperatures when Nick's alarm went off at 6am to call Pebble Beach to try to get in on a cancelled reservation. He got lucky with a 4:30pm tee-time with the warning that he may not be able to finish all 18 holes before sunset and the course closing. We took the opportunity and showed up as prepared as two Floridians ignorant to Northern Cali weather and unanticipated golfing plans could be... Lindsey doubling up on leggings and Nick rocking Vans and rental clubs. Did I mention we had shivered in hammocks all night for an approximate total two hours of actual sleep? Back ache and all, Nick managed to shoot par on the first hole! This excitement, combined with a live audience of adorable mule deer, made Lindsey agree to be Nick's caddy for the whole round. Some say it was her presence alone that brought the magic on hole 12... Nick made history with a 187-yard stroke of a 5-iron on a par 3 overlooking the Pacific Ocean. We went crazy. Expletives were dropped. Many beers were purchased. Had their been an officiant on the course around us, we would have exchanged our vows right there on hole 12! As the sun and temperature continued to sink rapidly, we were told the hole-in-one was only valid if Nick completed the whole course. We raced against Earth's rotation to meet our victory, Nick shooting by the light of our iPhones in otherwise pitch blackness by the 17th and 18th holes. One day, our future children will be able to visit Pebble Beach Golf Links and look up their father's name in the official Hole-in-One Registry.
We’re on the same page about
...dogs sleeping in the bed with humans! Jetty is an Aussie-Lab and our first child together. We also have Dunks, the polydactyl college cat who's been around since the beginning of our relationship; Nick pretends he doesn't want him in bed because of "allergies"... but an extensive camera roll of adorable bed cuddle photos tells the real story.
A life goal of ours
Does it even need to be said? We've gotta cross Australia and Antarctica off that list!
We take pride in
the yard of our house we bought in 2020 after living together in a condo for 4 years. You have to see it to believe it, if we do say so ourselves. Imagine a corner lot of pristine St. Augustine grass, a plethora of tropical palms and flora, sparkling slate stepping stones, towering bamboo, and a shell-laden fire pit surrounded by modern Adirondack chairs and tiki torches which we lovingly refer to as "The Oasis."

Your presence is truly enough of a present! Believe us, we understand Boca Grande was NOT the easiest destination for our guests to navigate. But for those of you who are stubborn, we've put together a wish-list to help you out.
