Our Story

Once upon a time, Lissa and Jon met at a bar. Jon was just trying to play pool and avoid his roommate. Lissa was just trying to sing karaoke and wing-woman for her friend. But as they say, it happens when you are least expecting it...

After a successful wing-womaning mission, and a winning pool game, they both found themselves alone at the edge of the bar. Lissa complimented his pool skills and they began talking which led to laughing. Jon found Lissa cute, liked her laugh, and, after Jon's unabashed karaoke performance belting out the Allman Brothers, Lissa was charmed.

Now, nearly 8 years later, Jon can still run a pool table, Lissa can bring down the house with a “Proud Mary” karaoke performance, and they are happy in love.

About Us

What's your favorite activity together?

We love playing trivia and board games together. We also love watching football together (especially when it's Bears vs Chargers.)

What's the most memorable trip you have taken together?

-Vancouver, Canada! We fell in love with the city and got engaged!
-Grand Canyon, AZ. We flew in a helicopter over the Grand Canyon and took in amazing sights.
-Yosemite, CA. We caught the beautiful "Firefall" phenomenon over the El Capitan.

A life goal of ours

To see the Northern Lights.

The most spontaneous thing we’ve done

We followed a rugby team we just met down to San Diego to watch them play at Charger's Qualcomm Stadium. Then we ended up deciding to spend the weekend down there and indoor skydive the next day.

The dorkiest thing about us is

We have a daily Jeopardy calendar we are pretty obsessed and competitive with, will gladly watch documentaries on all topics, and tune in to NPR for "Wait Wait Don't Tell Me".

A social cause we care about

Beagle Freedom Project and ASPCA.

We are on the same page about...

all of the important things, except for how to pronounce Gif. Jon thinks its "guh-iff." Lissa correctly pronounces it "j-iff" like the peanut butter.

How did he propose?

After months of lockdown, we got away for a vacation to Vancouver, Canada. Lissa was suspicious a proposal might be coming, because she planned the whole trip except for Monday at 1pm when he insisted we carve out that time to go to a specific local park. Why at 1pm on Monday? "Because... I heard it's pretty then" he said.

All morning she was on alert but saw no signs of a ring box in his pants or in the backpack they shared. As the taxi arrived at the park at 12:55pm, she felt her heart race in anticipation, but she had no idea what she would be walking into. Jon walked them around the edge of a pretty park on the water until in the distance she spotted an elegant tent set up between to large willow trees. "Is someone glamping?" she asked. "Let's check it out," he said as he grabbed her hand and started leading her to it. That's when it hit her. This beautiful scene had all been set up for her.

He led her through the willow branches revealing the tent had a gourmet picnic inside, a photographer to capture the moment, and 3 piece band on standby. Never in a million years did she expect her 1pm on Monday to be THIS wonderful. He got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. After some tears, a resounding "yes" and a laugh at him putting the ring on the wrong hand, the band broke into "Fly Me to the Moon" as they held each other. It was one of the best moments of their lives.

Q & A

For all our friends and family who have lots of questions, please check out our Q & A first!

How did you meet and/or how did he propose?

Please see the Our Story page and find the proposal answered in the About Us questions.

When is the RSVP deadline?

Please RSVP by July 15th, so we can have an accurate headcount.

Are kids welcome?

While we love your little ones, our wedding is going to be an adults-only event, except for those in the bridal party, so that everyone can relax and enjoy the evening. We appreciate you making arrangements ahead of time and leaving the kids at home so you can celebrate with us!

Can I bring a date?

Please check your invite for your +1! Unfortunately, due to costs and venue size, we are unable to accommodate a +1 for everyone.

Where should I park?

There is plenty of free parking at the venue but we highly encourage those drinking to utilize Uber or Lyft as it is an open bar. Any cars left overnight risk being towed unless security has been alerted prior.

What should I wear?

Please come dressed in cocktail attire.

What will the weather be like?

Average weather in Moorpark in September is high 70's in the day and down to mid 60's at night. Fortunately, the trees at the venue block a lot of the heat so hopefully it doesn't feel as hot as it is.

Is the wedding indoors or outdoors?

Our wedding ceremony and reception are both fully outdoors at the same venue.

Is it okay to take pictures with our phones and cameras during the wedding?

We would like for our ceremony to be unplugged so guests can be fully be in the moment and our photographer's view can be un-obstructed. Please put your phones away for the ceremony and let our photographers capture your faces, not your phones. However, feel free to snap away during the reception!

What food will be served and is it an open bar?

Yes, it will be an open bar but please bring cash to tip the bartender. The menu is still TBD but will be served buffet style with a variety of vegetarian and meat options. Please let us know of any dietary allergies or restrictions so we can try to accommodate.

Are there any Covid requirements?

We take the health and safety of everyone seriously and will be keeping an eye on the ever-evolving Covid pandemic as the wedding date approaches. The site will be updated as it gets closer with any requirements as needed but we highly encourage everyone to get vaccinated and boosted if you haven't already. :)

Are the ceremony and reception locations wheelchair accessible?

Yes, the venue is large and spread out but there is a paved path throughout. However there is only one handicap accessible restroom which we, or the staff, can point out to you.

What kind of shoes should/shouldn't I wear?

Dancing shoes! :) You shouldn't have to worry too much about heels. Almost the entire venue is concrete or tile flooring except for the ceremony seating area which is grass.

Whom should I call with questions?

Please text Lissa at 214-883-6525.
