Story

It was towards the end of Spring Break 2014 when Jack received a spontaneous call from one of his friends, Rafael, to join a primitive camping trip. Little did Jack know, the decision to join Rafael and his friends would forever change his life… For the greater good of course! This was when he met Lorraine for the first time. Towards the end of the trip, Jack started developing an attraction towards Lorraine. Securing a first date with Lorraine was a challenge that Jack accepted. It took weeks for Jack to get Lorraine to agree to a study session at a local Starbucks due to scheduling conflict (Fun fact: Jack thought Lorraine was not interested at all but it was later clarified that she was working a lot at her part-time job and attending school). Their first date was at RA sushi, where Sake Bombs were first introduced to Lorraine and sushi continues to be a shared favorite till this date. Fast forward to December 2020, Lorraine and Jack got engaged in North Carolina, after the pandemic caused a slight detour of the original plan to get engaged in early 2020. Throughout their love story, families merged, some of the camping friends became family and new friends were made along the way. As they tie the knot on May 6th 2023 in Portugal, you are cordially invited to share this special moment on the next chapter of their love.

PRE-WEDDING: Chinese Tea Ceremony

6:45 PM to 9:30 PM

The Chinese tea ceremony is a cultural wedding tradition where the bride and groom serve tea to their respective families. It can date back all the way to the Tang dynasty in China! This will include both sets of parents, and other older family members. Serving our elders in order of age is an important part of the ceremony to show respect and gratitude. It symbolizes the union of the two families.

We ask all attendees to meet in front of the hotel before kicking off the event.

Getting In

We recommend flying into Porto, Portugal as this is the closest city to Braga, Portugal (the Wedding Venue). If you're feeling adventurous, you can start your journey from Lisbon (south) and make your way up to Braga (north).

Note

BRAGA, PORTUGAL

Portugal’s third-largest city is an elegant town laced with ancient narrow lanes closed to vehicles, strewn with plazas and a splendid array of baroque churches. The constant chiming of bells is a reminder of Braga’s age-old devotion to the spiritual world. Its religious festivals – particularly the elaborately staged Semana Santa (Holy Week) – are famous throughout Portugal. But don’t come expecting piety alone: Braga’s upscale old centre is packed with lively cafes and trim boutiques, some excellent restaurants and low-key bars catering to students from the Universidade do Minho.

PORTO, PORTUGAL

Porto’s charms are as subtle as the nuances of an aged tawny port, best savoured slowly on a romp through the hilly backstreets of Miragaia, Ribeira and Massarelos. It’s the quiet moments of reflection and the snapshots of daily life that you’ll remember most: the slosh of the Douro against the docks; the snap of laundry drying in river winds; the sound of port glasses clinking; the sight of young lovers discreetly tangled under a landmark bridge, on the rim of a park fountain, in the crumbling notch of a graffiti-blasted wall…

Q & A

For all our friends and family who have lots of questions, please check out our Q & A first!

Is it okay to take pictures with our phones and cameras during the wedding?

We would ask you to please refrain from taking pictures during the Church ceremony as it will be considered "unplugged". For the rest of the night, please take all the pictures and share them with us too!

When is the RSVP deadline?

We would like to receive the RSVP by January 31st.

Can I bring a date?

Please refer to your RSVP card for how many guests we are counting on from your attendance.

What time should I arrive?

The ceremony will begin at 4:30pm, so we ask that you arrive earlier (between 4 and 4:15) to grab a good seat!

Where should I park?

There will be parking available, when you put the address on the GPS, please make sure you are going to the very top! (not at the bottom of the stairs)

Is there a gifts registry?

As mentioned in our invitations, your presence means so much to us! Should you wish to contribute to our honeymoon, we will have a wishing well at the reception.

What is the dress code?

Formal attire

How far is the reception from the ceremony?

Less than a 2 minute walk! No need for a car.

What is the nearest airport?

Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport (OPO) is located in Porto and it is 35-40 minutes from Braga.

Where should we stay during our time in Braga?

We have suggested a few hotels for Braga and Porto. For the night of the wedding, we would suggest you stay right where the reception is: in Bom Jesus do Monte. They have a few hotels there, our top recommendation would be Hotel do Parque. If you want to reserve, please check the room you want on their website and email grupos@hoteisbomjesus.pt, mention that you are “wedding guests for the May 6th wedding of Lorraine and Jack at Colunata Eventos” for a 10% discount. You could walk right back to your hotel after the party!!
