Travel
Direct flights from the UK
Ryanair flies direct from London Stansted to Marrakech RAK Menara, or Easyjet also flies there from London Gatwick. Vueling, TAP and Royal Air Maroc also offer connecting flights. When you land you’ll be able to take a taxi from the airport to your hotel for approximately 200 Dirhams.
Taxis
If you’re not keen on walking on the streets in the sun, grab a cab to your destination. The area inside the medina is quite small so getting from the southernmost point to the northernmost shouldn’t take more than 15 minutes. Taxis are very affordable, and a fare within the centre shouldn’t cost more than around 40 Dirhams, which is less than £3.50.
*One thing to remember: if taking a cab from the medina to the Beldi Country Club, make sure to ONLY take the Mercedes cabs, as others are considered unfit by police to travel on the main road. Your hotel will know this and will organise it for you.
Other Info
Currency: Dirham
£1 = 12.7 Dirhams
1 euro = 11.3 Dirhams
The dirham is a closed currency, which means it can only be bought once you arrive in Morocco. You’re allowed to bring in or take out 1000Dh (around £76) but you’ll need to exchange the rest on arrival.
You can exchange your pounds to dirhams at a Bureau de Change in the airport, at a bank and in most hotels. Keep hold of your receipt as you might need it to convert your dirhams back when you leave – you can do it at the airport for a good rate.
Weather: The usual high temperature in Marrakech during April is 27ºC, although as this drops to 11ºC at night you should bring some warmer clothes for the evenings.
Language: Arabic and French. English is spoken in nearly all of the Riads, larger hotels and restaurants and by most taxi drivers.
Things to do in Marrakech
This 16th-century Islamic school is a must-visit to appreciate the full measure of the intensity and skill of Moroccan architecture and craftsmanship. The school’s interiors are an example of the highest form of the region’s tile work, carved plaster and intricately carved wooden doors.
One of the most famous gardens in Africa, Jardin Majorelle is a twelve acre botanical garden that was bought by Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Berge in 1980. The new Yves Saint Laurent museum has just opened next door.
This is one for guests with children!
Spread over 24 acres (10 hectares) just outside of Marrakech, Oasiria Water Park offers a perfect place to get away from the city and cool down in sunny Morocco. The water park has a bit of everything you’d expect, including thrilling river rapids and water slides, as well as a lazy river, splash tower, adults-only pool areas and Africa’s largest wave pool. Young visitors enjoy their own pirate-themed splash zone and mini toboggan slides.
Open 10am - 6pm.
When you get to the Djemaa El Fna (The Central Square), don’t walk right into the souks - have a mint tea at a street-side cafe and watch people go about their lives. Here the air is rife with cries of gypsies, snake-charmers, wandering minstrels, magicians, and folk-singers. From your vantage point you will see henna artists, palm readers, and ventriloquists. Then prepare to get lost, bargain, buy ornaments, leather goods, homewares, spices, and absorb the chaos!
The Bahia Palace, meaning brilliance in Arabic, is perhaps one of the best-preserved historical sites and certainly most interesting in Marrakech. Built between 1866 and 1867 by Si Moussa, this sprawling palace is set over two acres in the middle of the Marrakech medina and features 150 rooms, including a harem section located just off the sun-filled Court of Honour. Having housed the Resident General during the French Protectorate era, today the Bahia Palace is a must-see historical museum open to the public daily and has previously hosted events such as the Marrakech Biennale.
The Saadian Tombs are one of the most popular tourist sites in Marrakech. They were open to the public in 1917 when they were discovered.
These tombs date back to the end of the sixteenth century designed by Ahmad al-Mansur and are located in a closed garden, which visitors can access through a small passageway.
In the same garden you’ll see over one-hundred tombs that are beautifully decorated with coloured mosaics. The Saadian Tombs are the resting place of approximately 60 members of the Saadi dynasty

We hope that you will take the opportunity to get dressed up with us in informal, smart attire! It will be warm during the day but temperatures tend to dip at night, and since some areas will be outside you might want to bring a jacket or wrap. However there will also be fires to help keep us warm.
